I just filed Ch 7 bankruptcy last month. My mortgage payments are current, but I don't know if I should walk away from the house or not. I know I am upside-down on my mortgage (I owe $189,000 and my zestimate is $191,000 but in reality the home would not sell for that, I'm sure). The house is pretty old (built 1993) with original furnace, central air, water heater. The roof is about 12 years old, and the fence is on its last legs. The windows are newer. I bought it in 2007 for $188,800, refinanced it a few months later for a lower rate/payment. My PITI is $1262. I could probably find a comparable home to rent for the same amount or even less. It is a 4 bed/3 bath/2 car garage with 1648 sq ft in Colorado Springs. I could even go down to a 3/2/2 and be happy as long as I had C/A. I already put in $30,000 in updates, and even more work needs to be done. (The bathrooms, while small, are all really nice, but the kitchen still needs updating, plus the yard/driveway is a disaster.) I'm just afraid that if I keep it, it will go down even more, and I'll end up having to put in even more money into it. Plus, with agents commissions and closing costs, etc, if I were to sell it the regular way, I'd have to bring a lot of money to the table. I have no money in savings in case something essential breaks, and I need to have surgery which I have to save for as well. My credit is shot already. I don't have any money right now to move, but I would in 3 months if I stopped paying the mortgage. Also, it's a VA loan, so I don't know what the consequences are in that regard. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Sorry this is so long, just wanted to give as much info as possible.

This is not my house. i own 7365 and the size is different and value is different yet they are same.

Square footage on this home is incorrect. It should be 3246, same as 7365 Centennial. Same house.

How can the Zestimate amount for this property be useful or even fairly accurate when Zillow used an extra 1,094 sq. ft. more than the actual total square footage to calculate the Zestimate amount listed?

Zillow has home listed as 2,316 total sq ft, however, assessor has home listed as 1,824 total sq ft?

Why does the square footage listed by Zillow not match the Assessor's square footage? If the square footage listed by the assessor is correct and Zillow calculates their Zestimate on this property using 492 extra square feet as one of their factors to determine the Zestimate amount, the Zestimate value for this property cannot be reliable or useful.

Selling vs. Renting

Im a military service member. There is a good chance that I will be forced to move in the next 12 months. Right now my house, (3476 Tail Spin Dr. Colorado Springs, CO 80916), was bought on a short sale. By zillow estimates, I have only lost about 5K in value on the house since I bought it. There are far, far fewer houses for sale in my neighborhood than there were 6 months ago. I would expect that would mean that my home value has a strong possibility of rising in the next 8-12 months. My question is how much does it have to rise before I break even on the house with closing costs ect? I have heard as much as 20%!!! That would mean I would have to wait until the house appreciated $36K before I would break even on the house?

So, with that hard reality staring me in the face, do I rent the house out until it appreciates enough? I know I would need about 6 months of rent before doing so. i dont want to sell the house and still owe $20-30K on it.

What do I need to consider before I sell/rent this house?

Bridgewater Dr is listed with 2 BR and 5 bathrooms. Surely not. How many bathrooms does it have?

Assessor site list the upstairs/main floors to be 1,031 sq ft, basement 700 sq feet with only 300 finished does not add up to be 2,129 sq ft. Your information is incorrect and inaccurate unless you have something to back that up.

Why does my home info keep changing?

I updated the facts on my home when I first bought the place as some of the facts where not correct. I am trying to be as real as possible to track the actual valuation of my home but when I look at it now the home details have gone back to the way that they were before I bought the home. It's very frustrating.
