Expensive Foreclosures?

I've been looking in the J section and noticed there are some homes with "Foreclosure" signs on them.
When I look at the asking price, it is way above the norm, in one case $100,000 over the average selling prices. in fact I own a house right down the street from one of them. According to Zillow, my house is worth alot less than the foreclosure house which is smaller and in a less desirable area.

What is going on? is the "Foreclosure" buzzword a gimmick now? Maybe some realestate people could buzz in here. I thought the purpose of a foreclosure was to sell asap so the bank doesn't have to own properties. Foreclosure = Bank Owned

Lately my TV is full of informercials talking about how I can buy foreclosures through a third party. Are these really foreclosures, or is it a misuse of the word?

I know very little about the process of buying a home or mortgages. I'm am exploring the internet now to learn a little more about it before I go to a banker&a real estate agent. I keep seeing something to do with the mortgages called, "points". Some of them come with points & others don't. What are points?

Because the recent 'sale' was really just a partial transfer of equity. The actual appraisal at the time of transfer was $510,000. If anyone knows the right way to get Zillow to correct this, please post it here!
