I have a few questions specific to my situation that I would like to seek advice from a professional but I don't know where to begin. I am planning on saving up for another six months to accumulate a decent down-payment. Do I wait until I have my down-payment in place or can I start the process now? My hope is to be situated with my new home August/September of this year so that I may have my son enrolled in the appropriate school for the next school year. I have already found a home I would like to buy, I just hope it would still be available when I would be able to buy. I'm just curious about specifics like when I should apply based on my specific circumstances; I don't want to apply too soon and get denied. Who do I talk to about which kind of mortgage is right for me ? I was considering an FHA mortgage because I will have about 10% saved up for a down-payment but I worry that it won't be enough to get a traditional mortgage.
Where do I begin? A realtor? A mortgage broker?
Furthermore, would I have to pay a mortgage broker for advice prior to actually beginning the process of applying for mortgages?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

10 replies Wed, 02 Jan 2013 16:50:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/When-and-how-do-I-begin-the-process-of-applying-for-a-mortgage/472863/ 2013-01-02T16:50:00Z Looking to Refinance- Investment property http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Looking-to-Refinance-Investment-property/470229/ Hello
I am looking to refinance an investment property with a loan balance of 140K and 0.55 LTV.
