Watch out for the car tax! http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Thinking-about-moving-to-Georgia-from-another-state-Watch-out-for-the-car-tax/517497/ Hi. You won't hear this from a realtor in GA because they legally work for the sellers and "buyers beware!" But Georgia has implemented a new tax on cars when you register them from out of state. They will charge you 6.25% of the book value of each of your cars. That hurts! And, it was a surprise to me. So, consider yourself warned. They'll give you a warm welcome while they reach into your pocket.

7 replies Thu, 31 Oct 2013 21:30:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Thinking-about-moving-to-Georgia-from-another-state-Watch-out-for-the-car-tax/517497/ 2013-10-31T21:30:00Z Seller/seller's contractor did not deliver the repairs per the regulations http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Seller-seller%27s-contractor-did-not-deliver-the-repairs-per-the-regulations/513588/ The furnace in the house had to be replaced because it had a recall on it for safety issues. The seller agreed to get it replaced. Now we find out that a permit needs to be pulled for the furnace replacement (the permit basically entitles an inspector to inspect and verify if the job has been done satisfactorily) and the seller's contractor never did that. From what I have found out, its mandatory to pull the permit when a furnace is being replaced.

Now, the seller/seller's agent want us (buyer) to file an application for pulling the permit citing that the contractor who did the job is "distancing himself". That looks to be complete BS to me. Even if it is true, I am sure they have ways to contact him through his license number.

Our worry is that let's say we file an application for pulling the permit and the inspector points out that the job has not been done satisfactorily, then what next ? Who gets the repairs done now ? This should all have been done by the seller in the first place.

What options do we have here ? Can we sue/file a complaint against the seller/his contractor ? Our contract clearly mentions that the furnace replacement was agreed upon and now after we have moved in, we find out that the permit was never pulled after replacing the furnace.

8 replies Mon, 30 Sep 2013 20:38:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Seller-seller%27s-contractor-did-not-deliver-the-repairs-per-the-regulations/513588/ 2013-09-30T20:38:00Z Ask our community...JBMS http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Ask-our-community-JBMS/517160/

2 replies Tue, 29 Oct 2013 15:25:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Ask-our-community-JBMS/517160/ 2013-10-29T15:25:00Z How can I get details about utilities in Southern California? http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/How-can-I-get-details-about-utilities-in-Southern-California/517426/ Go to http://www.IfIMissItIFixIt.com and look for the Utilities tab.

0 replies Thu, 31 Oct 2013 14:21:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/How-can-I-get-details-about-utilities-in-Southern-California/517426/ 2013-10-31T14:21:00Z Wanting to buy a home with bad credit http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Wanting-to-buy-a-home-with-bad-credit/516866/ My family has out grown our current home and desperately need a larger one.
