Are condos a good buy in Austin, especially as an investment property? We would enjoy it as a weekend home for 4 years, then sell it. "According to the
latest Zillow Real Estate Market Reports, home values in Austin
increased 8.7% in the first quarter of 2009, compared to the first
quarter of 2008. Nationally, home values decreased 14.2% during this
same period."

In contrast the Austin Board of Realtors says, "May 20, 2009 -
According to the latest Multiple Listing Service report by the Austin
Board of REALTORS®, the volume of single-family home sales in April
2009 was 1,601, down 18 percent from April 2008, and the median price
was $189,000, up one percent over the same time period."

So we have a seven percent gap in the change in home price. I don't
know who is correct. As a Realtor I want to side with ABOR (Austin
Board Of Realtors). I hope as a home owner and as a Realtor that home
prices are going up. I don't know who is correct but I do know that
all information should be double checked.

[content removed by moderator for being self promotional]

7 replies Thu, 28 May 2009 18:22:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/What-is-really-going-on/240077/ 2009-05-28T18:22:00Z Do you need Austin market information? http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Do-you-need-Austin-market-information/225008/ I have the latest 1st quarter 2009 real estate information to share. If you need residential or commercial statistics, send me an email.

0 replies Sat, 18 Apr 2009 02:32:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Do-you-need-Austin-market-information/225008/ 2009-04-18T02:32:00Z Suburban vs. urban price drops in Austin http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Suburban-vs-urban-price-drops-in-Austin/37397/

Business Week just did a cool article using Zillow data which analyzes the different home value changes in urban vs. suburban areas. As a long time resident in Zilker I want to know how my neighbors feel about the new mcMansions popping up all over. Do you love them or hate them? Personally I feel they are usually not in keeping with the face of our lovely neighborhood. When a builder makes an effort to maintain the character of the neighborhood I could jump for joy. The concrete loft type homes should be in a more loft type area (Industrial and downtown areas are where they started). I love the charm of the Zilker neighborhood and the orignial bungalows are a perfect fit in my opinion.
