Decline in home values?

Can anyone tell me what is up with the drastically sharp declines in home values in the last 2-3 months in Gainesville? I have seen my Zillow estimate drop ~25,000 in about 6 weeks. The housing market seemed reasonable stable prior to that. I plan on moving in about a year and a half and am starting to really get worried about this rapid decline. Thanks for any insight.

My husband and I were thinking about selling in a Short Sale because of a bad mortgage that we got caught up in. We were one of the families that didn't make a stupid move, but were sucked in by a company that we asked to mirror our old mortgage, who did not in the long run. We tried contacting them on several occassions to ask questions, the bills for two months almost tripled, and we got a lawyer. The mortgage company, New Century, filed bankrupcy. NO WONDER we couldn't speak with anyone!!!!

Anyway, we are going to try to keep our home with the new HOPE program and the president's new bill and the so called "bailout" if it is done properly. Who else out there feels that these two things could possibly help them keep their home and life savings, but that they are in the minority with others who feel that the country would be "bailing" us out too.....?
