Tampa Heights safe?

Hello - I am currently thinking of buying a house in Tampa Heights, specifically around Graham Elementary. Â Is this area fairly safe? Â I am doing my own personal research now (i.e. driving by, talking to neighbors, etc) but I am really curious as to what others think. Â I have also considered Seminole Heights and S. Tampa (South of Gandy). Â The Tampa Heights neighborhood seems really quiet. Â TPD reports mostly auto burglary in the area, which is common in a lot of areas.Â
Can anyone lend an opinion? Â Thanks so much for all of your time and input!

Why zillow marking my house CHEAPER than most in Subdivision!

I would seriously like to talk to someone at zillow. Why is my house valued at a cheaper rate then most of the houses in my Tampa neighborhood? It has more square footage with more amenities yet zillow says its worth less than the house next door, or across the street or any around the corner. PLUS so far all the homes have been selling for more than zillow says mines worth..so whats up with zillow? I mean why would anyone pay my asking price if zillow says its worth 60K LESS????? Frustrated with zillow and would really like some help getting my house valued correctly.

I am relocating to Tampa, FL and have a 1st grader who is spanish/english bilingual and would like to continue this educational direction whether private/public/magnet. In addition, I would like honest information regarding the neighborhoods; my interest is in a safe, family friendly, well maintained neighborhood with nearby shopping, grocery stores, etc. If anyone is willing to share their experience I would be very grateful.

Florida Property Tax System

The depressed housing market has shown the problems with Florida's property tax system. Homeowners in some counties must prepare for substantial hikes in property taxes to cover budget deficits; and buyers of foreclosed properties are finding that, despite purchasing the homes at a discount, they must pay taxes on the home's original value.

Even though thes state has a "homestead" program to prevent property assessments from rising more than 3 percent per year, the assessment is raised when the residence is sold – meaning homeowners in the same neighborhood are not in line when it comes to their tax bills.

Is it time to re-think the way our state government collects taxes? Should property owners bear the brunt of a bad economy?

Special Loan Program through Fannie Mae

I am a Port Tampa resident and wanted to let everyone know that our zipcode 33616, is eligible for special Fannie Mae loan programs. If you qualify, you are eligible to borrow 95% of your homes value. Which typical loan programs as of Feb. 2008 only allow up to 90%. This could be the difference of $5-10,000 when you are buying a home and looking to lower your down payment.

Problems with the developer

Read that the there is a lot of problems with the developer such as refusing to make public how the CDD is spent. Also, I've read he plans on passing legal fees from an upcoming legal battle over the CDD issue onto the homeowners. I was very interested in living in this area, however, I am extremely reluctant now based on what I have heard about the developer.

Not one of these three areas is included on your list of Tampa neighborhoods. So i guess we don't belong in the discussion.

Riverside Heights Civic Association August 07 Meeting

The August RHCA meeting will be held on Tuesday the 7th at the Franciscan Center at 7pm.
