Toilet flushes very slow?

Buying a 70's built beach home on city water and sewer. I had the house inspected, and everything on the plumbing side checked out ok. Best I can tell these are the original toilets, and when they flush, there is just not much pressure to push things though. Is this just a case of old inefficient fixtures, or could it be something different maybe requiring the lines to be snaked and cleaned out? Thanks

I've heard that magnetic paint is great for rooms where you want to just hang something on the walls with magnets. Anyone have any experience with it? How effective is it? How much does it cost? Is it safe?

Engineered floating hardwood flooring in the kitchen?

My home has a concrete slab foundation. I am thinking about installing engineered floating hardwood flooring on the entire bottom floor of the home including in the kitchen.
Is using glueless, click-type engineered floating hardwood a viable option for the kitchen?
Also, should the kitchen base cabinets be installed on top of the hardwood or directly on the concrete slab with the hardwood running up to the kick plate?
Lastly, is installing click-type floating hardwood at a 45-degree diagonal possible? I have done nail-down installs at a diagonal before but never worked with the click-type floating flooring of any kind. Thanks in advance.

Kitchen cabinets refacing question

Has anyone tried the "do it yourself" cabinet refacing product from Home Depot or Lowes? I wonder how easy or difficult of a project it would be. I don't worry as much about installing the new doors and drawers as I do about the "sheets" that will cover the existing cabinet surface. Has anyone experience installing these and do they look good or cheap? Thanks.

Estimate for hardwood floor installation...is it reasonable?

I received an estimate for the labor of installing a hardwood floor in my 307sq. ft. livingroom. I have hardwood in some other rooms and want to match the existing floor, so laminate is not an option. This is the quote I got: $150 for the removal/disposal of the existing carpet, $2.50 per sq. ft for the installation of the floor for a total of $767.00, $3.00 per sq. ft for the sanding, staining, etc. for a total of $921.00 plus a small fee for installation of the baseboards. The labor total is about $1,900.00. Along with the actual purchase of the hardwood I am looking at about $3,500 for the one room. The contractor comes recommended from the place where I usually purchase flooring from. I live in Sherman Oaks, CA. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I own a 1930's 2-story 3 bedroom home that doesn't have a bath on the main floor. It has an awkward kitchen so we are completely re-doing it. picture a 12x12 area with a cove attached that is about 4x6. The question is do we go for a smaller kitchen (12x12) with a sm powder room (in the cove), or go for a bigger kitchen, recessed refrigerator, and continue without a bathroom on the first floor??

We have white ceramic tiles in the shower pan and surrounds and mildew keeps appearing even after re-caulking the edges of the shower pan. Any suggestions to get rid of it?

My wife and I bought our first house earlier this year. The previous owners left us a nice, brand new pellet stove in the basement. It has never been used and isnt even vented into the chimney or through to the outside. We've never used a pellet stove previously, so we are looking for experienced pellet stove users to offer some tips and share some experiences.

Generally speaking, what would be the impact on taxes if a cape cod (1.5 story) home is dormered to add a full bath and 10x10 bed room...I just need to get an approximate idea. I do understand that it all varies by town and state, but a rough estimated range would be helpful.

I am trying to install vinyl siding on my home. Lowe's sent 5/8 j trim to go around the windows. When installed it did not extend beyond the window. I don't think it is supposed to look like this? Can I use 3/4 j trim or do they make such?
