We expect to live in it for up to 5 more years before selling and moving. We're in a starter community (first homes) , so we want the baths to look nice and have easy upkeep. I really like the look of the newest pre-fab surrounds I've seen, and I think they'd be easier to clean and maintain. But will they adversely affect the desirability of our house for a first-time home buyer? These bathrooms are tiny, just big enough for a tub, toilet and vanity.

16 replies Mon, 28 Oct 2013 15:32:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Pre-fab-tub-shower-surround-or-tiled-walls/517000/ 2013-10-28T15:32:00Z How can I find the original floor plans of my house? http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/How-can-I-find-the-original-floor-plans-of-my-house/507727/ I am on the hint to find the original floor plans and details of my house in Indian lakes association.

5 replies Tue, 20 Aug 2013 13:36:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/How-can-I-find-the-original-floor-plans-of-my-house/507727/ 2013-08-20T13:36:00Z How much value does a boat dock add to a home? http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/How-much-value-does-a-boat-dock-add-to-a-home/523739/ - I am in the final stages of purchasing a home that is on a branch of the Elizabeth River

- I'd like to put in a bulkhead that extends my usable property to the waters edge and finish with a jet ski and boat lift. It should always be considered when you move into a new home; when keys are lost, stolen or unreturned; or a cleaning or other service provider hasn't returned the key.
Replacing the lockset would give you a totally new mechanism that should work better and if you go back with the same manufacturer, you'll probably avoid any carpentry. You can order the locks online and have them work with the same key at no extra charge.

Another alternative is to have a locksmith rekey them. The locksmith can easily make all of the locks work with the same key. Compare the cost and decide which would be a better expenditure.

While you're considering your security, a key safe might be a very convenient addition. Most makers say that it is much easier to break into a home than a key safe. The cost is reasonable and you can attach it to your exterior wall. Generally, they're combination locks that would allow you access if you or another family member forgot their key. It's also convenient to give a house keeper the combination and can be easily changed if necessary.

3 replies Wed, 03 Apr 2013 22:31:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Changing-the-Lock-is-Key-Hampton-Roads-VA/486185/ 2013-04-03T22:31:00Z Raising a ceiling in a medium size space http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Raising-a-ceiling-in-a-medium-size-space/486707/ I have a store front that I have been authorized to use on the base. It has been used maybe 4 times in the last 13 years. I have read many other forums, and it seems to be about a 50/50 split on the subject. The reason I am posting my own question is that my house is not typical and already will not appeal to a segment (those who bubblewrap their children) of the population.

We live in a developement of approx. 600 homes. All four bedroom boxes with all the bedrooms upstairs, except for ours and maybe 8 or 9 others. Ours is a three bedroom (actually four now with addition of a bedroom in the basement) with the master on the first floor and the 2nd and 3rd upstairs with a jack 'n' jill bathroom. It also has a two story great room and no formal living room.
For these reasons, I'm thinking that our home (if we sold) would not appeal to buyers with young children. I'm thinking that our target would be buyers with teenagers or no children at all (grown and out of the house). And these are the people that I believe already know that they never use a tub.
So...is my logic sound? Or do I need to step back and reassess?

6 replies Thu, 24 Jan 2013 15:18:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/To-Remove-a-MB-Tub-or-Leave-It/475675/ 2013-01-24T15:18:00Z Has anyone had a good expereience upgrading their A/C and heating system? One of the major complaints she has filed to the fairfax county is my window screens are in bad shape and I should replace them On the lease window treatments are marked as is and says we are not responsible for the maintenance. Does that include window screens? The window screens are not in bad shape. Our tenant complains about everything. Any how we were told to just remove them and that should solve the problem?
