how can I get an appraisal corrected that was done on foreclosed comps and not regular sales?

The apprasial came in at 1/2 of the selling price of the home and the bank will not finance the sale. The regular sales were more recent and equal or higher than the selling price of the home. I am told the "incorrect" appraisal cannot be corrected for 6 months.

can someone share their real exp in buying a short sale home ,repairing and renting ( as an out of state buyer depending on asset management ) it in prime cities that are now hit by recession.
What are the challenges you have had. the pros and cons.
If you can share your actual exp that would REALLY help

I am planning to put some money in these cities . Helping their development by buying property there. Is there a catch ? How easy or otherwise is it to rent homes in Detroit / Pittsburgh ? Like does it take you , many more months to find a renter ...? are there any other unforseen conflict of interests ( e.g. they sell off your home stuff and say its broken etc ...does that happen frequently ) ...? can you make allowances for these and still make a decent profit ..?
How about taxes. if you buy it cash ..how can you claim against taxes ..? any idea...fellas..thanks for your help

with the prices in recession . if you buy homes in MI and want to rent them out is that poss ? or its a real challenge ....I mean is there a chance you end up in a one way situation where you bought, invested in repairs , and now its lying stale there- un-used with a chance of it being vandalized ( I dont stay there ) .....is there a hidden story underneath the fairy tale ? pl someone ..lend me your wise experience ...

Taxes and property ..how do I take benefit?

If I stay in CA but I plan to buy property in some other state say MI or PA.
I never worked there so I did not pay MI or PA taxes.
Is there any angle by which I can claim away my taxes (I meant , claim any kind of tax benefit) , if I bought property Full Cash.
Can someone guide .?

I will not be at the closing because we are US millitary and live far away. A rela tive has our power of attonery. I want the contract on this forclousure reviewed so we know where we stand before we close. The seller, a bank gave us a closing date of 1/21/09. Help!! need advice. We have a realtor in the local area working with us. Who can I get to be our legal eyes and ears.
