There is a house that i am extremely interested in. I've found out the block number and who the previous owner is but the house isnt for sale. the house is abandoned with boards covering the windows and all????

I have been living in my apt for over 17yrs which has turned into a condo I was offered $711k to buy. It's a 1st fl duplex (going downwards and main street facing) containing 1br and full bath on main floor and cellar with 2 'rooms' (not bedrooms) and .5 bthrm (one of the rooms are concrete and rest of apt is hardwood (not the best condition). 1580sq ft. It's in a 12 unit walk up with currently no laundary nor central air. I believe this is way overpriced - what is your general opinion?

Confused about finding a buyer's agent.

I'm looking to buy now (3 family - 11211/11222/11101/11106/11385). However, whenever I email/call a real estate agency I feel like they just check their inventory and that's the end of it. For instance, i contacted Prudential Elliman almost a month ago, speaking with the agent and emailing her all of my details and real estate needs. Haven't heard a peep from her since. I thought an agent would search listings, tell me about new hits, keep in touch with me, etc. What am I doing wrong? I'm finding more hits (even though they're not suitable) myself by searching online. I have no clue how to go through the buying process so how will I be able to do so without a buyer's agent? I'm also not going to find something and then bring it to an agent to represent me - not going to give them a commission for not having done anything. Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks.

My wife and I are one of those people who have plenty of cash on hand and a good credit rating and want to purchase a place before the First Time Credit Expires. We are looking to buy a 2 to 3 bedroom in Brooklyn, with an easy commute to downtown Manhattan. We have been to several open houses and prices are looking good, but we just don't know where its smartest to buy right now. Many of the agents we've spoken too are just interested in getting us to buy a place, but haven't really discussed with me the areas, given the instability of the economy and the real estate market in Brooklyn, what would be ideal.

We have been looking in downtown Brooklyn and Fort Green, there are a lot of luxury condos here, and the planned future developments are enticing. But given the recent talk about HARP and the fact there are apparently 65 or so condos that are financially in trouble, is this a good neighborhood to get into? Are there other areas I should look into as well given its easy proximity to downtown Manhattan?

Also, we are worried when the first time credit does expire, there will be less people willing to purchase in the area and prices will probably drop. Should we just wait for that to happen?

Some honestly and candor would really be appreciated.

Could anyone tell me which is the better area to buy a 3 or 4 family invest property in and why, 1) st. marks between utica and schenectady, 2) halsey between malcom x and stuyvesant, or 3) quincy between marcy and tompkins ... your help is greatly appeciated.

I purchased a house in March of 2000. I sold the house in 2006. In 2009 the I.R.S. wants me to produce the closing statements of the purchase.I no longer have this paperwork. I physically drove to the realty office where I bought the house and I was informed none of the people from back then currently worked there.How do I go about retreiving this information as well as the attorney that was present at time of purchase

There is a new radio show that began today and will be broadcast every Saturday, 10 am - 12 noon EST. It is called, "Eye on Real Estate," on WOR 710 am.
