I have my favorite spot too my kitchen! No, but seriously The Dish and Hales or the 5 Spot its been awhile but over the years thess are the best near Ballard.
Here's a plug for two of my favs if you are on the road to Maltby/Monroe or Woodinville

Depends on the food you are looking for. If you just want a brunch with lots of options then Salty's is the best (not really your area, but worth the drive, even to the other location in Des Moines). They also have one of the best views to see while eating your brunch.
Salish Lodge does a great brunch as well (again not near you).
I think the best is create your own. Try out many different spots and see what you like. Maybe your favorite starter for the day will be pancakes, then you want some caesar salad, then a nice vegetarian pizza, some ice cream (of course you want some on a cone and some in a dish), then get some Swedish meatballs, reindeer jerky, and a really good tea. You might not find all that in one location, but you can have fun going to many locations and trying them out.
There are many sites that "rate" different things so you can look at them for some help. You can also check with the local fliers and news to find out when a festival is going on and try that out. One such place to look would be the Nordic Heritage Museum.

We really like the Volunteer Park Cafe: Special menu with creative food flair. Think roasted pear brioche french toast. Capital Hill area.

And Mae's Cafe: Wonderful omelets and your happy making breakfast foods, and cow decor. On funky Phinney Ridge.

Them's the faves!
