I rented a condo with cheap laminate in the kitchen and bath and hated it. It buckled and showed seams and generally did not hold up well. Genuine hardwood is no comparison, of course, but neither is as easy to keep clean as carpet. Just choose a dirt-hiding tweed and vacuum. If your pets are using your carpet as a toilet, you are not taking good care of your pets.

My wife and I put in a wide plank red oat laminate about a year ago. We have a dog and two cats. The floor is beautiful. We purchased a high quality laminate as well as the best underlayment we could find. My wife loves that it is so easy to care for (It is in the kitchen) and it does not show any wear or traffic. We are extremely happy with it.

I love my new laminate floor so much, I have been dragging my feet putting my home on the market. Two dogs and two cats?....laminate is the best thing since sliced bread. The money I have saved by not having to get my carpets cleaned every 4 months has almost paid for it. It is so much easier to take care of than any other type of floor I have ever had in the past. I've had both hardwood and tile in previous homes.

Actually the current trend right now is wood flooring. It is much cleaner looking and keeps the house a lot cleaner and does NOT hold the dirt, pet hair etc that carpet holds.

Laminate flooring is a lesser expensive option to natural wood. I would rather see natural wood and have experienced most buyers would rather have a combination of natural wood in a great room/kitchen, etc. tile/vinyl in bathrooms and possibly kitchen and carpeting or wood in bedrooms. The combination is nice and the carpet and wood combinations really warm up a house. Laminate flooring seems to be louder than natural wood.

i'm currently buying a house. all that i've gone into with laminate floor i immediately drop what i'd be willing to pay for the house by how much it'd cost me to put in something else. don't do it.

laminate/pergo flooring is DEAD in my area. People walk in and think cheap cheap cheap. I also tends to feel spongy in certain instances and that doesn't help the illusion of a hard surface floor.

In my opinion, in 10-15 more years, you'd walk into a home with pergo and have the same thoughts as if you walked into a mobile home with ugly panelling instead of drywall. "What the heck were they thinking?!?" At least carpet is not trying to be something that it is not.

Now real wood, that's a different story altogether. That is very desirable and fairly timeless. I do feel these engineered wood products are misrepresented however since most of them cannot actually be refinished as the manufacturer would like you to believe.

I agree with one of the answers below--quality laminate and bamboo are just about the same cost and bamboo holds its value longer and better than laminate.

Wood flooring turns a house into a home. I would use a 3/4 T& G hard wood, like oak. Here is our floor after we tore up our carpet 5 years ago, it'll out last this home.

Laminated wood flooring looks great and we put it in all our new condos. When you say "laminate", I'm assuming you want a real wood engineered product, that is what we use. I agree with the reflective qualities of wood floors, especially to brighten smaller or more enclosed spaces. It cleans and polished very well with Murphy's Oil and hot water. Check out "BR111" product from Brazil. Now, that said, I pesonally do not like hardwood floors to live on, because I go barefoot in home, but the wood is beautiful and will most likely sell your home faster IMO.
