They can't be accurate a majority of the time based on numbers alone. They do what they do based on the past sale, assessment, neighborhood trends etc. In some areas, this works better than in others by their own admission here. More standard areas of housing built around the same time with lots of comps that sell regularly work best for the numbers system that they use. As for your house, I would suggest that you claim your house here and edit your home facts to include your remodeling here. You can take your shell value and add the improvements that you have made. That alone will affect your Zestimate number. The home details updates will show up immediately, but the new numbers will take a few updates to work their way in to the system and your Zestimate. Zillow is not perfect. They do what they do. As an owner, you best bet is making sure your facts are correct, your updates are included and that Zillow has the best numbers to draw on to make your Zestimate as accurate as it can be within the limits of the system itself.
