If you did not have an appraisal for some reason, than there is really no one else responsible for verifying the square footage. Unfortunately, this is a common issue and many homes are listed with incorrect square footage.

This is not a title insurance issue either. All you can do is contact the city of Bellevue or King County (who ever you pay property taxes to) and report the innaccuracy in square footage, and ask for an opportunity to have your property value re-assessed. You should also contact your home owners insurance company and let them know as well. Hopefully this will translate into lower insurance or taxes for you, and not affect your property value too much. Good luck!
Thu, 26 Mar 2009 18:08:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Bought-in-2008-and-the-total-home-size-was-reported-wrong-1620sf-on-deed-but-it%27s-only-1500sf/215448/ 2009-03-26T18:08:00Z
