I raised my kids in Noe Valley, I'd also recommend Glen Park, another family-oriented community, and the Inner Richmond. Sorry to say that the school situation in the City definitely chases families away, although the intrepid who stay have made a difference by becoming very involved with the public schools.

Noe Valley is where the kids are at.
Avoid Nob Hill (too close to Tenderloin, and too many hills for kids and strollers). Avoid North Beach (not right for kids). Marina is very nice (and the streets are flat which is great) but it's more of a 20-something place than a 30-something place.

I lived in the Mission District in the 1970s but upon reflection of my lifestyle back then, I can't recommend the inclusion of children under the age of 21 unless it is you yourself.

SF is a city that is currently with one of the lowest percentages of homes with children in the US because it is so expensive to raise kids there. Very few children go to the school next door.

I'd probably look in Noe valley, Haight/Ashbury, or Sunset districts if you want to live in SF proper.

I was born in SF, but haven't lived there for some time. The best way to find out about the different neighborhoods is to go the chamber of commerce for San Francisco.

Keep in mind the schools that are closest to your home may not be the school you child may attend. Do research
