Scott Nelson gave you excellent advice... consult with an Attorney.

Nail holes in walls may be minor, stains on carpet may be minor.

But water damage on a ceiling could be a symptom of a very big problem.

You should consult with your buyers agent & attorney to review what options are available to you in your situation. It is highly specific. Typically the Purchase & Sales has a provision that the seller has to pass on the property in broom swept condition which leaves a wide opinion of what that means. Without alot of specific knowledge of what has gone on, price, concessions etc. that were made in the deal then it would be impossible to guess. The purchase and sales contract should provide guidance on these issues.
