I much rather hear a hammer, saw or air compressor than a non-stop barking dog. Now that noise drives me crazy.

Maybe ask the guy who works 3rd shift? I have a next door neighbor (county deputy sheriff) who works odd hours. If his car is gone...I'll mow my lawn. If I see him come home & it's 6 or 7 pm, I stop about an hour later. If I see him come home fairly early in the morning, I wait until about 2 or so to start any loud motors such as a mower or weed whacker.

I used to work 3rd shift & hated it because NO ONE ever gave me any consideration. So since then I have always tried to be aware of the work shifts of my immediate neighbors.

my neighbor has younger children, so I cut the powertools off at 9pm on weekday nights, 10 or so on weekends. Not so much homerepair these days, but I like to work on cars, and my air compressor is very loud. If I forget and work too late, he doesn't call the police or anything, he just comes over and says "hey its too late" We share a beer and chat.

you own house? depends on how friendy you are with your neighbors. Ive worked through midnight with my tilesaw in my house, because my neighbors were ok with it. No complaints to the city or hoa means it never happened anyway.

Thank goodness you're not in an h.o.a. they dictate your life to you. If you started at 6:58 and they wanted 7 they'd try to squeeze money out of you. I've seen this happen. Otherwise your city or county dictates the start time by code.

In AK, I don't know. Where I am it's 7:30 for anything that is non motorized like a hammer and 8:00 for the motorized/compressor tools. Every community is different. Usually the code compliance office or building department in your area can tell you what the rules are. If I have a crew working too early near my house, I walk over in my pj's and plead for peace and quiet until the allowed time. Most crews laugh and then do much better the next day. If they do a better job, I bring them cookies and a 6 pack of Coke. Bribery and humor works. My system has a 100% success rate and it beats complaining to the building department or making a neighbor an enemy.
