It can be clear or opaque- but the light transmition will let more light in and reduce the need for electricity use during the day. Also, a fun option would be a dutch door for the laundry room door. You can close the bottom to keep the dog in/out, keep the top open to hear the laundry buzzer, provide more ventilation and light during the day, and you can close both if you want and also insall a doggie door on the bottom half. You could also consider installing a doggie door in the wall, if you have the space for it- ive seen it in homes and its really a nice gesture for your pet. Plus, it allows for a fancy door or a door with glass.

For the kitchen door, if you do use clear glass- you can get a TRB (return to bottom- its that type of treatment where there is a small rod on top and on bottom with the fabric stretched the length of the window) sheer window covering to provide privacy, let light in and lifter the outside view at the same time. Also, in a kitchen, the illusion and feeling of more space is always desired and a window door provides this.

Check out local building supply stores (not the big box stores). Find a few online or in the phone book and take a visit. You will probably discover doors you never thought of in regards to material and price. Before you go, determine what you want out of the design of the door (in regards to function and aesthetics) and how long you want it to last. Installing products with a long life-span that satisfy design requirements is, in my opinion, the most important. Have fun! And hire a good door hanger!
Mon, 23 Jun 2008 22:11:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/What-kind-of-exterior-door/35675/ 2008-06-23T22:11:00Z I always prefer fiberglass ... http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/What-kind-of-exterior-door/35675/
I always prefer fiberglass over steel, and steel over wood. Wood doors tend to require more upkeep. A fiberglass door will give you the look of wood without the hassle. They are very durable as well. There are a lot of brands, just depends on the price range. I would go to a building supply store like 84 Lumber or Stock building supply. You can go to home depot or lowes but you are hit and miss sometimes with getting and associate who has the knowledge to help you. Hope this helps.
Mon, 23 Jun 2008 21:51:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/What-kind-of-exterior-door/35675/ 2008-06-23T21:51:00Z
