Zillow Advice: Selling Process - I plan to list a home for sale, do I have to agree to pay the desk fee to list the home? thanks http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/I-plan-to-list-a-home-for-sale-do-I-have-to-agree-to-pay-the-desk-fee-to-list-the-home-thanks/365682/ Zillow Advice | Zillow Real Estate Agents are independent contractors ... http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/I-plan-to-list-a-home-for-sale-do-I-have-to-agree-to-pay-the-desk-fee-to-list-the-home-thanks/365682/ Agents are independent contractors we have the right to charge whatever we feel is reasonable for our services there is no set rate that agents charge period. That being said the agent should present you a complete list of any and all charges fees and expenses prior to the transaction. This way they are under complete disclosure and have transparency. If they told you after the fact then it's an add on fee and you are dealing with someone who's ethics are questionable at best. If you feel you are being treated unfairly speak to the agents Manager, or Broker, or both. If that brings no satisfaction speak to the licensing governing body of your state they may be able to resolve this issue. In short any fee's you are responsible for should be in writing prior to the sale. Personally if i'm paying 6% commission I think thats enough. Yes the commission is split with the buyers agent and the real estate broker office gets a share of that so In indivual agent net fee may be as low as 1.5% in some cases. Now homes in my area go anywhere from $220 k to $500k and avove. So if homes in your area are selling in the low 100's paying a desk fee may make sense, no one should be expected to work for peanuts. Good luck on your sale.
