I've ... http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/section-8-people-buying-homes/369461/ I'm a 45 yr old female. I've worked since the age 16. After graduating HS I went to Nursing school. So I've been a nurse for over 20 yrs. In March of 2012 I fell to the floor getting ready for work. I was dying. I was found and brought to the nearest Hosp. I was immediately put on life support. My family and children were told they were going to air med me to New Orleans and more than likely I wouldn't survive the flight. I had 6 brain aneurysms and 2 ruptured. I made it to N.O, again Neurosurgeons told my family that if I survived, I would be a vegetable w/ only the ventilator keeping me alive. I was on life support for 13 mos. and underwent 5 brain surgeries. I woke up 13 mos later. I wasn't in my right mind, I had no idea who my parents, sister or even my children were. After a year of extensive physical and mental therapy I was able to be discharged home but had to live with my family here and there because I was unable to care for myself. Today another year later I am able to care for myself. But I need assistance with housing due to the fact I'll never work again because my memory was affected terribly. The town where my family lives is so small its not even considered a town. Its a village. There are no rental properties here. U must own. I'm getting only disability and can not afford to buy a home with a disability income. I must live in the village to be near my family d/t the fact I cannot ever drive again either. So I went online and search for assistance in buying a home and I am brought to ur site where I'm reading all these post about how pathetic it is for the government to assist some individuals with purchasing a home. Not everyone are people who can work and dont deserve the help. If I were given a choice to remain working or live like this and collect money and assistance from the gov. I would give anything to take care of the ill again and purchase my home myself. But I don't have that choice. Not everyone are are low life's looking for a h Fri, 13 Feb 2015 06:02:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/section-8-people-buying-homes/369461/ 2015-02-13T06:02:00Z I've never heard of this ... http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/section-8-people-buying-homes/369461/ I've never heard of this $38,000. and I don't know where that would have come from. The section 8 homeownership program is available to certain section 8 rental program participants that meet the criteria. What I know is that the person has to apply for a loan with a regular lender, based on their income, credit score, etc. without any special consideration. Then, the section 8 program would determine what amount of assistive payment would be contributed. Together with the lender approved amount, and any other loan or grant programs that apply (such as down payment assistance or adaptive housing money, etc.), that person would then be able to buy a home that fits into their budget---so, if a lender approves someone for a loan of $40,000. and section 8 will contribute say, $300.00 a month (which might equate something like a $45,000 mortgage payment of principal, interest, taxes &amp; insurance), then that person could conceivable begin looking for a $95,000. home. But of course, there are many limitations on the home also. It cannot be currently occupied by a renter, it must meet stringent inspection requirements, and it must be located in an area that the section 8 homeownership program allows. Some areas also have programs that can be used in conjunction with section 8 homeownership vouchers and lender funds in order to "boost" buying power--these are secondary loans that do not require repayment UNTIL the first loan has been paid off....effectively allowing a person to buy more home but take longer to pay it off--they basically pay it off in two loans, one after the other. Also, the person must contribute a set percentage of their own funds for the down payment and also have established (and maintain for the life of the loan) an account for repairs and home maintenance.&nbsp;<br/>Judy Thu, 12 Feb 2015 19:27:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/section-8-people-buying-homes/369461/ 2015-02-12T19:27:00Z All id like to know is what ... http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/section-8-people-buying-homes/369461/ All id like to know is what programs are currently being offered from section 8. The program requires these accounts to be funded and maintained by the individual at a specified level during the entire course of the loan. Homeownership is not for everyone. Promising financially vulnerable people a home without addressing their underlying issues first is not right. Sect. 8- low income housing, where you pay 40% of your earned income towards rent, and the government will pay the difference on a set figure. The figure cannot exceed a certain amount, based soley on the Minimum bedrooms needed (2-3) people per room. Anyone who saves tye proper "downpayment" and has rented via section 8 for a minimum of 1 year, can obtain a mortgage On Their Own, and the government will pay their rent partially, until whoever can make their payments on their own, or until the contract ends, and renewal is denied. Many disabled veterans, physically, mentally, combat ptsd vets, the general public- disabled, elderly- diverse in race, single ParentsParents (due to the provider passing away, divorce, etc.) are section 8 users. Section 8 will no house sex offenders. It is akes years to hear back from a section 8 pa who will begin to work on your case. There are strict rules/ policies that anyone recieving section 8 must follow. The voucher can easily be revoked. The program is designed to help low income families and then individuals to get out of poverty and give them an opportunity to become a homeowner. Reiterating- it does not provide loans for down payments, or loans to mortgage a home. You must go through a lender on your own. It only assists with monthly payments, for a set time.
