Zillow Advice: Home Selling - Bad Algorithms! http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Bad-Algorithms/454459/ Zillow Advice | Zillow Real Estate There are a several problems ... http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Bad-Algorithms/454459/ There are a several problems contributing in addition to Zillow's sometimes silly algorithms. The assessor's data on several of the homes in this block looks incorrect - like they never got notice on all the properties of the build-out, or were given incorrect models at the exchange of information from the building or planning department.

Will this get automatically fixed? No. There's no one out there checking but you. First thing to do, is call the Sacramento County Assessor's office at 916- 875-0700 or email them assessor@saccounty.net with your parcel (APN) number, address and your thoughts about the footage. You probably have a builder's brochure or fact sheet. Once they correct it, it would still take a while for Zillow to pick it up. The second item is to "claim" your property on Zillow and make adjustments to the property's facts where possible. No guarantee the adjustments will be quick, but that will get you started on the right track. One the bright side, if the Zillow estimate were low by 10-20%, you'd be battling it all the time when talking to buyers, but since its off by 50%, everybody knows its wrong. Good luck!
