Zillow Advice: Refinance - Do you Vet your Mortgage lenders? It is hard to have peace of mind if you or someone you know/trust has not had a previous successful mortgage experience with a lender. You already have some concern because of the distance factor, and that unfortunately is something that won't change. The lender may do a great job but the problem is that you will not know of any headaches until/if they alert you later in the process including the appraisal process. If the actual loan officer is experienced, knowledgeable, and conscientious, you should have received pre approval by now and a feeling of confidence. I think local is best and past performance locally matters most. You can check sites like the BBB, complaintsboard, google the company name or read through the reviews on Zillow in the lenders profile.

There are lots of great lenders on Zillow, but it is always buyer beware when shopping for a mortgage. Ask questions, get quotes and get your lock in writing.
