Trying to do a quick estimates of the number of squares of roofing you have is trickier than it looks. Trust me, my degree and background are in architecture, I've drawn dozens and dozens of remodel projects, and it is trickier than it seems.

One of the easiest ways to to get started might be to call Home Depot, their Home Services department will happily come and give you an estimate. You can expect premium products and usually a good installation by local roofers, but at a pricey number usually (maybe $28,000+ on the roof you're talking about - without seeing the pitches, etc.)... but hey, they offer excellent financing!

That would be a way to start - take that estimate around and shop the price. Make sure you get solid guarantees on workmanship and materials. If they aren't installed correctly, it will often void the warranty.

As the other guy said, insurances, bonding - very important. You may end up liable. Also, any price is only an estimate until the old roof comes off and they can look at the decking and support system underneath. Price will depend on if they are "tearing off" your old roof before installing a new roof. Also, the price of shingles varies by the quality and style selected.

As with any job, get several quotes and demand to see their insurance coverage before they start the job.
