Not average. Other short sales I've listed have been approved and closed in a few months. That's more average, but as others have said, some (not my listings) go on for two years or longer.

Find out if you can place a back up offer on the property. If the current buyer leaves the transaction, you may the opportunity to purchase the home. The average short sale is about 3 months on the ones that I have seen, but I just had one that went 7 monthe before the bank refused to do it. Two things to always ask is how many loans are on the property (if there are more than one, they need to get approval from each lender, which takes more time and may not go through). Also, who is handling the short sale and how many have they actually done. If it is not an agent or company that has done a lot, that is a red flag. Good luck! I have done start to finish in 2 months and I have seen a pending contract fall after 9 months and I jumped in with a new buyer and closed in 60 days after the 1st buyer got frustrated and walked away.

Keep watching it, be ready to pull the trigger if it falls apart. It might also NEVER sell short and could go to foreclosure.

tim Wed, 07 Aug 2013 14:54:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Pending-short-sale/505668/ 2013-08-07T14:54:00Z
