Zillow Advice: Pro-to-Pro - Did you really write that?! http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Did-you-really-write-that/513774/ Zillow Advice | Zillow Real Estate In the days that many elementary ... http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Did-you-really-write-that/513774/ In the days that many elementary school kids did copy from the encyclopedia, it was pretty difficult to follow up on "plagiarism" and "source citing".

But what they wanted to teach you was not only "how to look things up", but also how to properly cite ones sources.

Apparently, many didn't learn it, and still refuse to learn it. One District Superintendent here was caught red-handed copying a speech word for word, and not referencing the source... The district still had to pay him a severance pay for "doing no work" as they wouldn't let him do his job after that.

It is much harder to get away with plagiarism now, even copying from a students from a different school year... plenty of plagiarism checking software out there, and students not only "FAIL" the paper when they do so, the get EXPELLED from the school! (OK, the public schools are not allowed to "Expel", but it is still an "F" on the paper....)

But a simple work around that the plagiarism software can't detect?

Google has a pretty decent automatic translator website:
https://translate.google.com/

You run it through once to translate to a different language of your choice.

Then you run it through again to translate it back... (Round Trip, or "back translation"... Mark Twain did that with some of his work).

Then you proofread it cleaning it up so that it still reads correctly and doesn't have a substantially different meaning.

As plagiarism software is looking for "consecutive words" and "phrases" that are the same, the double translation does a sufficient paraphrase to remove most of the identical sentences.

Still, it would be a lot easier to just reference (cite) ones sources properly in the first place.

Didn't they make you fill out those "bibliography cards"? And now you don't even need to do them on cards... just paste them into your laptop in word, notepad, excel or whatever is convenient. Or send yourself an Email from your phone.
Fri, 20 Feb 2015 08:19:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Did-you-really-write-that/513774/ 2015-02-20T08:19:00Z [Embedded hotlinks deleted ... http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Did-you-really-write-that/513774/ [Embedded hotlinks deleted by Zillow moderator. Almost always it resulted in a 0 if it was their final draft because there was always plenty of warning. Call me strict! It was pretty easy to tell if it was their writing. Adults aren't that different. It takes no time to copy/paste a few sentences into a google search and there you go! I don't think the local mls polices that though. Wed, 02 Oct 2013 04:24:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Did-you-really-write-that/513774/ 2013-10-02T04:24:00Z Many who are choosing to ... http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Did-you-really-write-that/513774/ Many who are choosing to plagiarize on the internet are discovering themselves in legal trouble, so, even though some of us learned about the no nos of plagiarism at a young age there are some who never learned or cared.

A local Jr. High principal was recently telling me about a computer scan of all submitted work. Essays etc are screened for plagiarism before they even gets to the teachers' eyes. If there is obvious plagiarism, it is bounced back to the student. Wed, 02 Oct 2013 04:09:00 GMT http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Did-you-really-write-that/513774/ 2013-10-02T04:09:00Z I think that is one aspect ... http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Did-you-really-write-that/513774/ I think that is one aspect of real estate, or sales for that matter, that I dislike.
