Per the city, they were responsible for maintaining the lateral, even under the street. We ended up sleeving the lateral, which cost about $3K. If we had to dig it up and replace, it would have been &gt;$25K.<br/><br/>For what it's worth, the lateral had root intrusion that required removal about every 2-3 years. 5+ years after the sleeve, a camera inspection shows everything is still clear and no issues.
