We should not encourage urban sprawl. I am very happy about all the downtown living space being built. I've lived in Austin since 1991 and all said, I think the city, county and state are doing a reasonable job in managing traffic and investing staggering amounts of money in highway construction: the expansion of 183 to beyond Cedar ParK, 45, I-130....I mean come on! The population needs to back (by voting to fund) and use light rail and other means of public transportation.

Betina, before assuming that more and larger roads will enhance the quaility of life by traffic problems, keep in mind that most of the growth is in outlying areas.

I live in an established neighborhood that in comparison is rather close to central Austin. We're not going to see any more growth...in fact, road construction has negatively impacted my neighborhood. Those new roads facilitate traffic THROUGH my neighborhood and make my area more unpleasant to live in. It's better in my humble opinion to build roads in areas that are growing.

You are correct, the traffic is very bad in Austin and getting worse every day. Our roads simply have not kept up with the huge influx of out of state people moving here for the last 10 years. TXDOT is working on it, but at a snails pace. Just be patient eventually they will catch up to to explosive growth we are currently experiencing. I just sold a home to an engineer that was relocating to fix the HWY 290/71 disaster. Give him a chance to work some magic on the roads.
