We have been spending the winter months in the South for several years and rented. We always talked about having our own place and would spend time looking.

This time we decided to buy with prices so cheap now.

This is a 2 edge sword because we could not fix up the rent places, but spend time doing our new place like we want it. Less time for golf and fishing this year. I would not do different. We got a good deal.

If you not happy living in someone elses place and paying them rent, it seems like a time to get a good deal.

If you're happy living in someone elses place, maybe you will get a better deal later. Maybe maybe not.

Callista, I am so glad to hear that. Not that the market will pick up any time soon, but the further away from the peak you are, the better. I'm just glad you're not living in a world of regret. Come April, you should get a stellar "deal".

Yes renting isn't all bad but what can I say... I want a yard! I know I could rent something with one but I want to create a really nice garden...one that will live for hundreds of years..if the house is still there. I'm ready to get my fingers in the dirt. If it hadn't been for this stupid housing bubble I'd have 3-4 years of mortgage payments beneath me by now..
