They punish ALL the kids for the actions of of a few a system that does not work & is not allowed in most schools. The principal does not answer e-mails & never seems to have time to talk to anyone. The students lose recess time for nearly any type of talking even gym time so not a physically healthy environment & only 1 recess per day. The teachers are nice the kids do learn but the environment does not seem very fun for the kids. Most parents do not get involved. Some strange administrative things here it seems.

Because of the merit system that was implemented the start of the 2011 year for 5-8 graders children DO NOT receive a warning first. Parents cannot be in school with their child to teach them what is right and what is wrong therefore it is the teachers responsibility to do that. Every child should receive a warning to know what is wrong and why. Not slap a demerit or a detention on the first offense.

VERY disappointed in EVERYTHING about this school. I have been involved in this school for 25 years and it just gets worse.. if you have other options do them.

While Vilas has a good band program and the academics are quite enchanting my son and daughter have both found Vilas to be extremely dull for a un-popular/shy/not into cliques kind of person. So one giant clique where if you are not in a popular posistion you are excluded but it does have good academics is your idea of a wonderful experiance Vilas is your place.

Former Student- Vilas Middle School has high academic standards (including advanced Algebra program) brilliant sports programs incredible Band program and highly recommended teachers. Because of small class sizes you learn more from teachers and receive a higher quality education. I recommend Vilas Middle School.
