Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS)

In 2010-2011, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was used to test students in reading in grades 3 through 9; in writing in grades 4 and 7; in English language arts in grades 10 and 11; in mathematics in grades 3 through 11; in science in grades 5, 8, 10 and 11; and in social studies in grades 8, 10 and 11. TAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas. The grade 11 Exit Level TAKS is a high school graduation requirement. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

This school's band program is very enjoyable. There are a few problems though. There is no swim team even though there is a pool??? The food is not nutritous or delicious. The school funding goes towards trivial things such as football rather than academics. About half the teachers are coaches that probably aren't even licensed to teach the subject. Every year since I have joined the band one of the band directors have quit to pursue a better job at another school. The teachers are obviously not payed enough to deal with the troublesome students. Many of the students are also sexually promiscuous.

This school is terrible. I have more than one child in this school and we have found that they are struggling greatly with the basics. This school is not spending enough time focusing on the academics. The administration will manipulate the parents and the students to get what they want. The band program was great but the band director is gone. If your child(ren) is in any form of extracurricular activities don't plan on taking vacations during the spring or summer break they have mandatory practice during this time. Definitely not favorable to vacations or parents of divorce. Look at US News & World Report's rating for College readiness. The students graduate with no preparation at all for college or the real life. If I could give it less than 1 star I would.

They failed to mention that the pride of Anahuac the Anahuac marching band is one of the best in the state Kevin Heckaman is one of the most prestigious band directors around!

I am a student here but love it all the way. I wish we had a theatre program for us 'drama freaks' but sadly do not. The athletic program is really awsome along with the academic program. I have been going here since I was in pre-k and have loved it 100% It has school spirt and amazing teachers!

I really enjoyed my children attending Anahuac High School. I found an excellent support system with all faculty members..You can go into the school at any time and talk to anyone..The support for the sports activities is amazing. The whole town will be at a Friday night football game.My son has attended AP classes for the majority of his school years. I feel that smaller classes have been very beneficial and helpful.

Anahuac is a small school but offers many of the courses usually found in larger schools such as Pre-AP and AP classes in every subject area and at every grade level. In a given year as many as 30% of the students will be enrolled in these advanced classes.

Anahuac is a school of Politics. The more money the family has the more attention the students gets. Depending on your Family name is how Educated and smart you may appear to be. A lot of kids are considered failures before any educational Knowledge is sought. It's a shame that this is the way it is. But there are some teachers who do care. And will go out of there way to help some kids. and there are some that won't bother because they feel they will be wasting there time.

Anahuac is a school where the principal cares more about apperance than about the students ability to learn. We have many high school students who can not read well and the school has done little to help them.
