California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

I am very impressed with Bret Hart and their wonderful staff. They really do care about the students at their school. We have to son's at Bret Hart and next year we will have 1 more attending. Both the staff and administration are award of their students needs and try their best to help them reach their goals. Granted this effort takes both the student and parent to be involved with their teachers and staff. They still offer great classes and use the local college for enrichment. We are very pleased with BHHS. It is the best high school in Calaveras County.

I feel like this school is in a downward spiral academically. Because of budget cuts they have discontinued many programs cut classes cut teachers and cut support staff. They no longer have a Career Center to assist students with post high school plans so students who need assistance with future plans get very little support. They have an administrator who is very unprofessional to students and at times parents. They are actually responding to a recent student protest regarding said administrator but my guess they will sweep the results under the table. Like any school there are some good teachers and some weak teachers. Overall most teachers seem engaged with students. Because teachers have been asked to do more with less it appears moral is dipping within the staff. There is a solid extra-curricular program for leadership FFA FHA athletics drama and music. All students should be able to participate in most programs if they are interested. The physical campus is very nice for a small rural district. Recently they have opened a new science/math building and a swimming/tennis/baseball/softball facility.

This school is amazing do not listen to any negative reviews. Seek and you shall find that Bret Harte not only does it improve it's students academic performance but also their physical and emotional performance. -Student (10th Grade; 4.0 Student; Athlete; Bret Harte)

Dont let the other reviews fool you. Unless your student is dedicated to sports they will be ignored by alot of the teachers. Very rarely will a teacher actually make time for the students. They claim to have a good facality and staff but it makes me sick. Their counsulars are not supportive nor are they helpful. They would rather send students to detention then help them. It's an ok school. Wouldn't recommend it for most. If ur a football player then it's great. You'll skid by with rigged grades and the "admiration" of the facality.

I'm a junior at Bret Harte This school is pretty well rounded It's got all kinds of clubs for different types of people to join like leadership or FFA or FHA. It's a pretty amazing school and the teachers here are extremely dedicated to their students.

This school and it's faculty are amazing. We moved from Napa to this school district last year. In Napa my son was in special ed with a 1.5 GPA. In one year this school has managed to take my son from special ed to college prep classes where his GPA is a consistent 3.5. Our childrens success was really worth the longer work commute into the bay area.

i was a student at bret harte. they seem too invovled in sports to even bother with the average student like me. i wasn't prepped in college choices and never informed of other options after graduating. there seemed to be a few teachers that weren't good at teaching or teachers that weren't qualified to teach but did anyways. there are some good teachers like randall and oliver but other than that not many. too much into agriculture for me... nothing for the average kid.

BHHS has a solid commitment to quality education. Drama and music programs are well developed. Teachers and administrators do a good job of keeping parents informed about school issues and student progress. One of the lowest dropout rates in CA. Nice kids nice campus great choice for motivated young people.

Just graduated Bret Harte recently and I gotta say it was an overall good experience. I had no problems with any of the teachers they are all extremely nice and will do everything it takes for you to succeed. Not being in any extracurricular activities I can't say much about that subject. what I've witnessed everything goes as planned and everyone enjoys it. Also being an alumni and not having my parents ever come to the school really I don't have much to say about parent involvement. I always felt safe when at school so that was never really an issue I also never got in trouble with the school once so not much to say on their disciplinary actions. However the only gripe I have is the tardy system. Every teacher has their own way to deal with tardiness ranging from getting a tardy if you're not stting

Very good school for college bound students.

We have a senior at the school and we're impressed with the staff and the overall learning environment. For a smaller more rural school it maintains a strong college prep program. The teachers are experienced and dedicated.
