Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS)

In 2011-2012 Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) was used to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona's learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.

Awesome school with great teachers and students! I have two kids at this school and they are doing well.

Our child has attended Desert mountain for the past 2 years And loves this school. The teachers are amazing and care so much about Their students. We are always treated with respect and always catch a glimpse of a friendly smile from The school front office staff. Our child is very happy here. Desert Mountain does indeed have a STRONG Anti-Bullying policy. Our child also has an IEP We have been satisfied with their special education department. Dr. Johnson even attended our IEP meeting. How many busy principals do that? She has always been approachable and listens to Any concerns we may have. We have found the special education department to be very accommodating. The reason We feel this way is because our child actually ATTENDS School here CURRENTLY not somewhere else. If our child is happy and thriving here We find no reason to go elsewhere.

Wish I could rate this school better but the horrible administration prevents me from doing so. Great teachers but the principal has got to go. She may have her doctorate but the way she handles situations is as if she didn't even graduate high school. If your child has any special needs (IEP or not) you'd be better off finding a different school and driving them they are not very accommodating. One last thing they say they have a zero tolerance for bullying but it is a serious issue at this school and the principal will brush you off if you bring an incident to her attention.

Great school. Great staff. Our kids have been going to school here for 6 years. The Wuollets.

Love this school. I have two children that are attending this school now and they are both excelling. The classes are normal size for a public school creating healthy competition. A great skill for the "real world".

I have a 1st grader and Kindergartner at this school. Both of their teachers have been available involved and engaged in the progress of both of my kids. I am pleased with the school overall but the lack of funding does limit some of the extra curricular activities available. The PTO is the best I have ever encountered.

We have two children at Desert Mountain School one in 3rd grade with Mrs. Wilson and one in kindergarten with Mrs. Holt. We are very pleased with their progress and absolutely love their teachers. Mrs Kestner was the substitute for the first 3 months and went above and beyond!!!! We really are happy at Desert Mountain and the PTO is outstanding. With dedicated parents we can do a lot.

my daughter has attended this school for 3 years. Thanks to the teachers she excells in her 5th grade class and feels good about herself. As a parent I could not be happier. Her music teacher even makes her feel like she can be a musician even though she makes the trumpet sound like a sick moose!

My son and daughter both attend this school and we love it. The teachers are very helpful and caring people. My son had Mrs. Vanderham last year and she is wonderful. She has a very creative way of teaching and I really enjoyed helping in the class when i could.

I've been going to this school since 3rd grade and ive got to say i've been pleased with the school ever since. i never really had very many problems with the school and its staff. The teachers find different and exicting ways to help us learn i'm currently going into 8th grade now and i'm looking foward to my last year.

VERY pleased with the school overall. My daugher is in kindergarten and Mrs. De La Cruz is a WONDERFUL teacher! I volunteer on campus occasionally and have been very impressed with the campus overall. The class size is a bit large (24) for kindergarten but I think that is pretty much the norm in Arizona. Lots of cool extra curricular activites like theme-night parties on campus where the whole family is encouraged to participate....very well planned out....great PTO!

Loved the Desert Mountain Fall Festival Lots of new things which is great. Magic show was terrific. Things just keep getting better every year. My son loves his teacher and there is always something new going on. We think we are in the best school in the area.

We have just been so happy with our 1st graders teacher. So organized for example when our little girl came home from her first day of school the information the teacher put together was amazing we received a business card with her cell phone number email address laminated and a magnet glued to it. To me this reveals a concern teacher and she has not disappointed.

My childs' teacher at Desert Mountain is terrific. I have had 3 children go through this school by far Mrs.Goldblatt is the best teacher I have came in contact with. My child has learned so much this year. I am very impressed my child loves her and is excited to see her everyday. My child came to this school very quiet and shy. Her teacher seemed to make her feel welcome and secure. She allows the children to be proud of you they are. I have been in there many times and it is a happy place for children. This school seems to have many great new teachers. The office staff is very nice. My children love the new principal! Its a great school all in all!

This school has improved immensely since the change in leadership 2 years ago. Thumbs up to our new Principal. Also a thumbs up to Ms. Hileman (8th grade math teacher) for going the extra mile to help her students pass the AIMS test. Thanks for making a difference in children's lives.

We've been at this school 3 years now and I am very happy with the change in principals. She has been present and easily available whether it be after school when kids are being picked up or at any of the various PTO functions or nighttime activities. I would like to see more of parents invited to the school for awards or other functions that the students are involved in. We have had some wonderful teachers here. It's nice to see the 'ineffective' teachers encouraged to leave. There has been a lot of teacher turnover - this may change after the principal has been here a few years.

My children are doing very well at Desert Mountain school. The teacher is very nice and they get alot of extra help when they need it. There is always something fun going on. The school recently had a Western night that was a lot of fun. If there were more parent volunteers i'm sure the school could do a lot more. We are very happy here in Desert Hills.

We moved into the area from the East Coast and the school quality was very important for us. We found DMS to be on par with private schools from the east. Overall our children are enjoying school and excelling at their age level. The teachers are wonderful and communication between teacher and parent is great. I haven't encountered any major problems at all and am happy that we chose this area for our kids.

I am enrolling my son in DMS because the problems I read about are the same as see & hear in every school in the Deer Valley school district (accept for that snake entry that's the silliest thing I have ever read come on people we live in the desert duhhh) & it closest to my home he is currently in DVSD school & at 1st I was nit-picky. Then I learned to work with the school & ask for the justifications for policies & do as much volunteering as my schedule allows so I am aware of what is going on & that has really helped alot...there is no such thing as a perfect school or for that matter a perfect child so it is all of our jobs to work together as parents teachers/staff. If one of those components are missing or unwilling then that is the real problem.

I have two children at desert mountain school and they are both doing very well. The school seems to be always coming up with new ideas to make learning fun and I would recommend this school to anyone. Our new principal is wonderful. Education is a team effort of parents and teachers I think that this school is doing a very good job. Our daughter has a second year teacher and we love her. She has bright new ideas and works hard to get the children ready for the next year.
