Often times parents don't realize the administrative responsibilities of a school principle. They often forget the major move to an off-site campus to a new building. All of this has occurred within a year and a half. Add to that the administration of the entire staff and 750 students. I believe that is the duty of the assistant principle is to meet and challenge students. Yes he has done that and I believe that the principle has done an excellent job in "managing" the administrative affairs of RSE.

Great school with wonderful teachers. The principal is a NIGHTMARE. I can honestly say that I hate the woman - and pity the poor teachers who look like an anvil is about to drop on their heads at any moment. The new assistant principal is fabulous... I wonder how long until the principal breaks his spirit too.

I believe the school has great and dedicated teachers. In addition the principal managed enormous projects this past year with the building of a new school two physical moves and managing staff students and yes parents. It was a herculean task and I personally don't know of any one individual in the business world that singularly managed as many tasks as Dr. Pender. I wish that there were more Science based classes or after-school activities such as Lego or robot builders. Parents and grandparents need to volunteer at least one hour a week to help students with reading or math difficulties. By the time a child is in the third grade it is an indicator of whether this child will graduate or not. If they cannot read and comprehend what they read well by the third grade only 30% will graduate. It is vital that children have books in the home and someone who will listen to them read.

Both of my children have been at Rock Springs Elementary since Kindergarden & they love it. Right down to my daughters Kindergarden teacher coming to my house to introduce herself before my daughter started school there. That said alot to me. The teachers & staff go out of their way to help EVERY child succeed. There are alot of parents involved like myself which helps me realize that we all need to get involved every change we get. Dr.Pender the Principal is dedicated to helping your child in any area that is needed for advancement. I love this school! My daughter has gone on to Apopka Middle and this is my son's last year here. I am a proud parent of a Rock Springs Rocket! Sincerely Sabrina A Wesa

Rock Springs Elementary provides my child with a good education. After four years he has had three simply wonderful teachers! They have been willing to meet with me anytime and discuss strategies to help my child succeed. The parents at the school are active and there seems to be little bullying and misbehavior. The principal on the other hand is a major disappointment. She is impersonable rude dismissive of ANY activity or idea that doesn't directly improve FCAT scores and generally a morale buster. The word in the school is that the teachers dislike the environment she creates. On several occasions she has said one thing one day and months later said something entirely different claiming no knowledge of the first statement. I do not trust her I believe she drags down the quality of the school and I cross my fingers for the day when she finally leaves RSES! With such a great team of teachers it is a shame that they don't have a principal that can lead them to even higher levels of quality and success.

We have been with RSE for a long time now. It is a great school and the teachers are very involved with the students. I had wanted my children in private school but after being at RSE I don't feel the need to pay the money when this school is just as good as any of the local private schools. The only thing RSE is lacking is a good principal; not only do the students not like her as a parent I am very unimpressed with her communication sklls and her teachers don't enjoy working 'for' her. The dean on the other hand is great!

Rock Springs Elementary is an excellent school. It has been a place where my children have been encouraged to grow academically as well as in character. They have received much encouragement and praise from all of their teachers even when they have gone back to visit them years later. The school has gone through many changes and new faces since my first year as a parent there. The staff continues to be dedicated and caring. I was not surprised to continue to see the such a positive attitude and dedication to their profession continue even in these tough financial times for schools. The staff at RSE started off this new school year with more enthusiasm than ever.

Sad to see the yr come to an end! Loved my daughters teacher! Assistant principal and most staff are very nice!! Dont have much to say for the principal~ or some of the staff! Not friendly at all!!Rude even out in public outside of the school!

The teachers at this school are great. They have done everything in their power to help my child. I would have marked it as higher if it were not for the principal. I tried to have a meeting with her and she was very impersonable. I have also witnessed her interacting with her teachers and she does not empower them at all. If anything I think the teachers are afraid of her. I really feel for the teachers.

The enthusiasm of the 'new' teachers at the school is infectious!

I have an older daughter that spent 4th and 5th grade at this school and it was great then. Since they replaced the principal it has really gone down hill. I have 2 other children now attending. The teachers pass out work and expect the kids to just do the work. If they cant do it on their own they are behind on grade level. I am not a teacher and dont feel that I should be responsible for teaching my kids everything at home. The new princible is absolutly no help!

This last year has been an adjustment for us all. My daughter had the best teacher in the fourth grade. Loved her. New principal has done ok but she had very big shoes to fill and still has a long way to go. I have issue with the county for taking a seasoned principal away from an 'a' school and putting in a first time principal in and you wonder why our garde dropped to a 'c'. Maybe the new principal should go back to what worked before she came and don't be afraid to have fun.

I think Rock Springs is the best elementary in Apopka (new school not considered). The experience levels of the faculty and staff are great as well as the quality of academic programs. My daughter has been back to school for only two months and has impressed me greatly with the new things she has learned already. They have wonderful availability of programs and the level of parent involvement is most impressive. I was already offered several opportunities to help out and volunteers are always welcome. I can even go to her class and help out any day that is good for her teacher and I. Wonderful school! Great staff! LOVE IT!

Excellent school. My child was reading at an alarming rate and his first grade teacher was phenomenal. Great school.

I have been so happy with Rock Springs. My son has been going for two years and I have had no problems what so ever. I love the fact they they encourage parent envolvment and have such open communication. My son is above average in every subject and his teacher have been able to challenge him on an individual level. I think anyone would be happy to have their children attend Rock Springs!

This school has great parent involment. The teachers & staff really care about the students. The school promotes charactor values into the daily learning.

I could not be happier with this school. I am a very protective parent and actually can relax knowing that my son is safe and being well educated. Every member of the faculty that I have come into contact with is very attentive the the children's needs. Any parent of a prespective student reading this should feel good about enrolling their child at Rock Springs Elementary School. It seems that most of the parents at this school are involved in some way with the various programs and activities. My son is blossoming at this school and I can only thank the staff for that. I believe there should be more P.E. but I understand that there are time constraints.

I think the school is great!

Very good school! They really want there students to succeed. I am a mother of biracial children and a christian and the love from students and teachers is really wonderful and comfortable. The principal relly hires cring teachers with a good educational background.

The academic programs are average however a few teachers pass out packets of language math and reading dittoes or worksheets. They sit at their desks while the children do their work independently without assistance. Children are told to do their busy work quietly and not complain. The principal does not visit classrooms to keep an up to date assessment of how the teachers are interacting or teaching the children. The school is too crowded and the facility is extremely poor especially the plumbing and drinking water.
