I'm a former teacher who has taught middle school in LA. as well as in other states. My daughter attended one of the most expensive private elementary schools in Baton Rouge and is now in her second year at Sherwood Middle Magnet. She's very happy and I could go on for pages about the fantastic teachers but the biggest difference I've noticed is that unlike my friends who still have their children in the other schools I no longer have to spend hrs. teaching my child each night. Homework is actually SUPLEMENTAL to what she has already been taught in class. There are no tears of frustration (hers or mine) because assignments are appropriate and teachers are accessible to my daughter by computer even at night! If Sherwood cost what the private schools cost and the private schools were free I'd still want my daughter here. I say a prayer of thanks for Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet every day.

I have just finished my last year at SMS and now i'm moving on to Baton Rouge High. And let me tell you Sherwood is a great school. The teachers are dedicated and are willing to help students who are falling behind. In sixth grade it will be challenging 8th graders will most likely pick on you but don't worry it's nothing serious. And the homework can be quite intense but it definitely helps the test scores. Overall I love Sherwood. (it's better than McKinely!)

My son attends Sherwood Middle and we have been so happy with Sherwood Middle. The Principal staff and teachers are AWESOME! Interaction is great. We would refer Sherwood Middle to anyone in the community and brag on the school everywhere we go. GO FALCONS!!!!

After receiving custody of my niece I enrolled her at Sherwood. She had a low self esteem very little motivation and absolutely no confidence in her ability to learn. Once I convinced her that she could successfully attend this school she put forth minimal effort almost putting herself on academic probation. With open communication and the help of the amazing teachers as well as an excellent program she now realizes that not only is she capable but she actually enjoys schools! In my nieces words 'Sherwood rocks!' 5 stars... all the way! This school is awesome!

My child has been at Sherwood for two years. When she started she was quite insecure about her ability to succeed. With support from home and the amazing teaching staff as well as excellent program she has turned into a student with confidence who LOVES school! I find the teaching staff to be one of the most amazing. The principal is a tad bit stern and tends to alienate the students but I think she feels that's part of her job. I prefer a principal who interacts with the students and makes them feel at ease. She does not but her teaching staff DOES! The teacher's are EXCELLENT! In the words of my little girl 'Sherwood ROCKS!' I think her words speaks volumes!

This is one of the best middle school in the entire state of Louisiana. The school offers many enrichment classes such as forensic science robotics and pre law. The faculty is dedicated and parent oriented. It is a safe and caring environment that produces students who are better prepared for a changing world. The school draws in students from throughout the parish except from Zachary Central and Baker which have independent school districts.

I find the school of discipline and structure which is good. But sometimes with the discipline all facts needs to be obtain so the structure will continue. Information is the key which can be easily obtain by asking why and then an apprioate discipline shall follow. Exceptions to the rules but limited express concerns only. Working together as a team meaning teachers parents and most of all the students how much better things will be. Having authority is a blessing and shouldn't be used as a weapon. Let us not forget someone showed concern and care for us so we could follow our dreams. Overall I'm proud that my child attends sherwood middle magnet and sherwood middle magnet is my child's school. Progress is being made so continue the strive of progressing more.

This school gets better every year! The changes made this year have had a noticable effect on the students. My son is in 7th grade and he is learning a lot is happy and we feel good about his whole middle school experience. The teachers are committed caring intelligent flexible understanding people who really want to teach these kids!

I have one child at Sherwood Middle she is in her final year there. I believe the school provides an excellent education to students who take high school course and advance courses which my daughter has been taking for three years. However the some advance english course lack the required course work to prepare students for the intense work of high school and college. Many of the teacher do not stress the emphasis on writing. The lack of detail on the part of teachers on this important skill will hurt the child in the long run. Another problem is the school eight grade is required to take a manadatory state test to see if the qualify to be promoted to the 9th grade. I do not have problem with this if I felt that the children were prepared for the exam. I am having to go to privite tutor to get my daughter caught up on those skills that she lost between grade school and middle school. During this time teachers are teaching the test and other important subjects are being lost. This said I believe the Sherwood Middel has some great very committed teachers who get the kids excited about learning.
