California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

A wonderful school with a deeply caring staff and parents involved at every level. BRSSD is a terrific district and has maintained its high quality education despite CA's budget challenges and unprecedented growth in student enrollment. Central is the crown jewel in a set of top notch elementary schools the curriculum community and leadership at the school are all outstanding. Great teachers who are well-supported are the foundation here but the school is wonderful across the board.

We love this school and the community. There is a very wonderful community of parents who are committed to creating a safe nurturing challenging environment for their children. The education is a lovely combination of whole child (with music dance and art) and a great academic preparation. The community has really rallied to keep the school top notch through these very challenging economic times from donating money to volunteering time. We are extremely grateful that are children are a part of this school and community.

As with all organizations the leader sets the tone and Mrs. McKenzie has certainly cultivated a kind respectful environment which empowers students teachers and parents. A gracious professional leader who remains engaged involved accountable and responsive to the needs of the student community and individual students she has the respect of the teachers who follow her lead in delivering the best education to K-5 students. My boys have thrived there these past 3 and 2 years respectively. Central is a very special community and we're blessed to be a part of it.
