Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA)

In 2011-2012 Pennsylvania used the Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 in math and reading, in grades 5, 8 and 11 in writing, and in grades 4, 8 and 11 in science. The results for reading, writing and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The PSSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Pennsylvania. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

This school defiently needs help. Not a very good sports program principale or administration. The only good thing about this school is they have some good teachers.

My school is amazing we have plenty of great kids in honors classes and higher who give it their all to try and achieve success but we don't have a very good budget and our school could definitly use more money to help out the students to make it to success.

I love Bensalem High School because my son goes there and he is Autistic and this is hs second year in Bensalem High School and the teachers are excellent. My son is now in the JROTC and he is also involeved with alot of activities and it is helping him with his communication skills and his coordination. I worked in Bensalem High School and I have to tell you the kids there are the most wonderful kids.

I have put my daugther in this school and everyday when she comes home she tells us how her day went and listening to all that makes us think that it's a great school.

I graduated from BHS in 2005 and looking back it was one of the better high schools i went to and I went to a number of them. Many of the great teachers I had are no longer there but I hope Bensalem found replacements that can compare. Although I found the inner system to be lacking to someone who did not grow up in the Bensalem district overall I found the education and experience to be good.

Currently I am a senior in this school. I strongly believe that my last three years have been the best years of my life. The school is great as are the teachers. For those that believe the school is crappy you are just looking in the wrong spots. All my expierences in this school have been positive. The teachers are amazing and the curriculum is good--and improving. Over all this school has been a positive experience. I would choose BHS over other schools any day.

I'm going to be a sophmore at Bensalem High School this year and so far this school has been great. The math program and teachers are between good and just so-so but other than that this school has fantastic curriculums that keep up with some of the more 'pretigious' high schools in Bucks County. It has an excellent music program that has led Bensalem to national competitions and recognition. The teachers will set up after school sessions for struggling students and from someone who used them they help tremendously. Bensalem has an excellent selectin of extracurricular activites. In my ninth grade year the principal has been trying to enforce many of the rules and I've seen a drastic change in the fight counts and better behavior. Furthermore I believe Bensalem High School is a great place with good smart students that will leave your children and young adults prepared for life.

I went to Bensalem High School for four years. Overall I think it is a pretty decent school. The principal right now (2007) Mr. Perry is a very good guy and is good with getting straight to the point. Like anything else there are always going to be the kids who give the school a bad name but as a whole it is a pretty solid system they have in place. They have a lot of extracurricular activities in place and electives like ROTC Band Choir that kind of thing. Through my experiences the teachers are sincere in what they do and will go out of their way to help out a student.

I think Bensalem is overall a fairly good school.

I think bensalem high is a very very excellent school. I like the teachers. I like the work that the teachers do. I also like how the majority of the students are involved in extracurricular activities. Mostly all the students are involved with something. The principal and the staff are such a big help in providing the students with what they need. I love that school so much. Everything about it just makes me very happy compared to other schools that I been attending.

Bensalem is an amazing place to send your child to school. Bensalem students recieve vast opportunities that will help further their careers. The teachers really care about the children and love their jobs. I went through the Bensalem Township School district and I now attend Penn State Main Campus (UPark) as a freshman. I would have never gotten here without the help of my teachers.

BHS has a great staff that helps the students excell in all subjects as well as athletes and the fine arts!

I believe that Bensaelem High School is one of the premiere schools available in the Bensalem area due to its leadership common goals and it mentality to succeed.

Where as Bensalem High School is often considered of the lower quality schools in Lower Bucks County it doesn't deserve a lot of the negativity that it receives. It still meets state averages in terms of student-to-teacher ratios and most testing standards. It is also one of the more culturally diverse atmospheres unlike most of the schools in the area. The extra curricular activities have received many honors including it's music program and yearbook accomplishments. Though remaining one of the smaller schools in population the athletic programs have remained competitive for years amongst other league and conference competitors. Before considering sending your children to a private or alternative school in the Lower Bucks County area take a good long look at Bensalem High School and witness the experience first hand.

Benslaem High School has to be the 2nd worse High School in Pennsylvania. The teahcers act like children. Picking on kids like they do. Though I know some are an exception. These so called adults would rather have a kid remove from the school than to help them. I have several children going to this school. Some excel and some don't caause they can't get the help we ask for. On top of all this. This school has more drugs in it than a hospital. These kids need help. This school needs to be reorganized. They need to get the drugs out.

My child will be a senior this year in the advanced placement program. I am very satisfied with the program other than some lack of direction in the senior project.

Our class sizes did not have 17 students per teacher. Some did most didn't. I know this because I just graduated from this school on June 16 of this year. Discaplinary actions were (from what I observed) were not fully enforced. For about half of the school year i wore a bandana against the 'no bandana' rule and only got in trouble maybe 3 or 4 times - even the princepal never told me to take it off. Some of the teachers could not teach right at all (majority of the students didn't understand the lessons or he/she taught too fast) or they had a bad attitude towards the students. Other than that i thought the rest of the teachers that i knew were easy to talk to and to get along with. Some of the classes were fun and some i wouldn't even recommend.
