How Many People Are Checking Out Your Home?

Wouldn’t it be nice to know how many people have visited your home on Zillow.com – particularly if it’s posted for sale or you’ve added a Make Me Move price? Now you can! Starting today, we’re showing “page counters” on each and every home details page. We’re certainly fascinated here at Zillow about visitor counts, so we decided to make this information available to everyone.

Page counters can be seen at the very bottom of your home details page and it displays the number of times your home has been viewed during the present month, plus the total number of visitors your home has received since we launched Zillow on Feb. 8, 2006! The page counter also displays how many pages have been viewed in total in the areas around that home, including the ZIP code, city, state, and the entire U.S.

We hope you enjoy having access to this insight. And just in case you’re curious, the most-viewed homes on Zillow are currently ones found on our list of Famous TV Homes:

Why does the page counter go up when I view a home that I’ve claimed? I’d think that you wouldn’t want to see your own hits. I would like to monitor how many people have viewed my home without tainting the data. Similarly, it seems subsequent hits in the same session should not continue to increment the counter.

Just some thoughts. Great feature, nonetheless!!

Thanks for your feedback Justin. Our initial thinking with this feature was to expose our users to what we get to see here – the total number of page views for each home. That includes those from the home owner, as well as those generated when a single user views the home more than once in a session. Your point is a good one though, and we will definitely be thinking about how to make the page counters even more useful to the owner as you suggested in the future.

I am ok with seeing hits when I visit the page IF I can see the IP address of the person viewing the page to really understand how many different people are viewing the page or if it is one person who keeps on clicking through adding to my number of hits.
