A Generation Y’s Perspective Regarding What is NOT Important to Consumers

home2_img1_geny.jpgMy colleague, Sara Bonert, played off of yesterday’s RIS Media’s Nine Things Consumers Won’t Care About in the New Year by giving a Generation Y’s perspective of the issue on Active Rain. As a fellow Gen Y’er, I can relate to almost all of Sara’s thoughts on the subject of things consumers don’t care about. One thing I really agree with is Sara’s thoughts on subject number 9 from the RIS Media article -

[consumers don't care about] How good you are at what you do. They only care about how good you are at who you are and how you can help them get what they want.

[Sara Bonert] I DO care about how good you are. Obviously I want to hire a GOOD agent. However, I will not decide how good you by you telling me. I will decide based on how I feel about you when I meet you and what other people say about you. The ‘other’ people’s opinions on you will not come from a testimonial sheet you bring in. I will read what people are saying about you, unsolicited, on message boards or any 2.0 site that I can find.

If you’re still trying to hard sell yourself to today’s young and Internet empowered consumer, it’s a good bet you’ll find it a very difficult task. There’s a vibrant discussion in the comments (57 currently), so make sure to at least skim the comments before clicking to something else.
