Frank Lloyd Wright-Inspired House Has River Flowing Through It

Frank Lloyd Wright created the celebrated “Fallingwater” home, which was built in the late 1930s for the Kaufmann family of Pittsburgh, PA. It’s no surprise then that Frank Robert, a protege of Wright’s, created his own version of Fallingwater in 1946 in Three Rivers, CA, at the base of Sequoia National Park.

Kaweah Falls, as it is known, is located at 43994 Kaweah River Dr, Three Rivers, CA, 93271 and is listed for sale for $1,950,000.  Water plays a big part in the design of this modern Mid-Century home that was featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Sunset Magazine and other publications. Owner Chris Keller said,

We’ve had great coverage, I think, because there are few homes with a river running underneath the dining room.  That’s what caught our attention anyway when we bought it back in 2005.   There’s also a waterfall on the property and the sounds of the river are hypnotic and relaxing.  There’s also a glass-bottomed floor where you can watch trout swimming below while sipping wine at the bar.  And our location at the base of the Sequoia National Park inspires a lot of intrigue.

Keller, and his partner, Charles Wolford, bought the property in 2005 from a contractor who spent two years renovating the original structure; Keller and Wolford then spent another two years finishing it and have designed every aspect — floors, walls, ceilings, paint, appliances, and landscaping — all the way down to the furnishings.

Here’s a photo of Kaweah Falls’ original design as compared to Keller and Wolford’s transformation:
