Several Seattle Homes Transformed for “The Details,” Starring Tobey Maguire
Earlier this summer, we reported that financing for the movie “The Details,” fell through, leaving Seattle homeowner Daphne Tomchak distraught over the condition her home was left in.
According to the Seattle Times, financing for The Details has been secured and filming has continued. Several Seattle homeowners have supplied their homes for the movie, an independent black comedy starring Tobey Maguire (photo left), Elizabeth Banks, Ray Liotta, and Laura Linney. According to Variety, the film is about:
… a struggling married couple who, already struggling with issues like infidelity and whether they should stay married, see their lives further complicated by ravenous raccoons burrowing under the sod in their back yard. A disagreement over how to dispatch the pests creates a chain reaction of mishaps that include a murder by bow and arrow.
Ooh, raccoons. For anyone who lives in an urban area, you know raccoons are cute, but can be nasty little devils. According to members of the crew, there are 150 trained raccoons in the film, not to mention “the real ones that come out.”
To get a closer look of the set, I wandered across town to the Montlake neighborhood of Seattle to see the four homes being used. It’s apparent why this neighborhood was chosen — it’s lush and the perfect haven for raccoons.
One home is being used to pull sod out of the backyard, this home’s exterior is being used for its cheery yellow color (it’s not yellow in these street views) and this is the main home whose original dark green color has been painted yellow to match the adjacent home’s cheery yellow exterior. You’ll see in photos below that the side and back of the house was painted, the backyard was redone, sod brought in and a new fence was erected.
Home’s exterior that is being used in “The Details.” Home is located at 1755 26th Ave E, Seattle, WA 98112:
Below are the two main homes being used. The yellow home to the left is being used for its exterior and the green home (“main home”) is being used for it’s interior and exterior backyard:
Here is the side of the “main house” which has been painted partially yellow to match the exterior of the adjacent house:
This is the backyard of the main home that was painted yellow. Notice the huge amounts of sod. This will play a critical role in movie:
Further up the block is this “bicyclist” hanging between two trees. The caption says, “Was that Spiderman I just Saw? Pretending to be a movie actor?” Not sure if that was meant as a tribute to Maguire or mockery of his Spiderman role:
More Hollywood? See how a Darien, CT home was transformed in “Revolutionary Road.”
