Fashion Designer Tory Burch Lists Southampton Teardown for $17.9 Million

Fashion designer Tory Burch has listed her oceanfront Southampton, NY estate for $17.9 million; it is located somewhere on Meadow Lane.

Even though there is an existing home and pool (photo above) on the 4.5-acre property, plans call for the construction of a 7-bed, 9-bath, 7,100 sq ft beach house. It is being designed by architect Daniel Romualdez (take a look at the designs).

According to Hamptons Curbed, Burch will take a loss on the property after buying the home from her ex-husband for $22.5 million in July 2008. Burch has reportedly purchased the Howard Gittis home around the corner at 500 Ox Pasture Road, Southampton, NY.

The ridiculous thing to me is that, due to the harshness of the northeast climate, these people only ever visit here during the summer. The rest of the time the homes are winterized by caretakers and are left uninhabited. That place is lovely though – but the turret structure appears to be on the wrong side of the building…shouldn’t it be looking out to sea?

I agree, it is pretty ridiculous but that’s the life of the rich and famous I suppose. The house indeed looks quite attractive and it has an ocean view but the surrounding landscape looks pretty barren if you ask me. Amazing it has dropped almost 5 million in just over a year.

I think it’s a real shame to knock down a perfectly good and attractive house just because they have the money to do so. It’s a real shame.

Rich people are crazy and then there the first to say help the starving children. If they lived a normal life and bought a say 500k house they could feed a lot of people with $22,000,000 at a Dollar a day that would feed 60,000 children for a year.
