Did She, or Didn’t She? Was Oprah Shopping for a Mega-Mansion in NJ?
The queen of daytime talk, Oprah Winfrey, was reportedly spotted in New Jersey searching for a new home to add to her collection, which included a stop to the former Frick Estate in Alpine, NJ. Or, did she? An Oprah tweet dispels rumors that she was even on the East Coast: “No truth to me looking for a house in Jersey. No idea who started that rumor. Been in Chicago all week working.”
Either way, the Frick Estate is one enormous and pricey property that Oprah could easily afford. Owned by New Jersey real estate mogul Richard Kurtz, the gated-and-guarded estate is presently on the market for $68 million. Kurtz purchased the property in 2006 for $58 million from the Frick family and then in 2007, he went about subdividing the 63-acre estate. The centerpiece is a 30,000-square foot English-style home that took three years to build by a 60-person crew. It has 42 rooms, including 12 bedrooms, three bars, a ballroom, an 11-car garage, full basketball court, spa, and theater. Other high-end amenities include antique Tiffany & Co. sconces, a mahogany and gold leaf library and a 3,200-bottle wine cellar that allows entry only with thumbprint identification.
