Report: Dr. J Losing Utah Home to Foreclosure

Before Michael, there was Dr. J., one of pro basketball’s most electrifying players who was known for his soaring dunks from the free throw line. Sadly, TMZ is reporting that Julius Erving is losing his home to foreclosure (see more celebrity foreclosures).

Erving’s St. George, UT home was listed in August 2008 for $2.5 million, but did not sell and was removed in April 2009. The marketing language for the home still exists on the page and alludes to a few basketball-type amenities:

Don’t we always tell appeal that to sell your home you need to appeal to the broadest market possible? Yet we see this time and again with these high end custom homes that are designed and built to a specific person, that will have very limited appeal in the overall market. And then they wonder why it won’t sell.

That sounds like such a dream home! I think the biggest problem with selling a custom home like that (especially in today’s market) is that nobody can afford such a house. Everyone’s more interested in paying $30,000 for the $100K house…

Homes that are too expensive won’t sell in this economy. I’ve seen mansions that were trying to sell for 1 million after a 10 million dollar price reduction and were still foreclosed. home buyers will not take risks on an expensive home that may lose a lot of value in a market like today.

It is time to buy. It wasn’t time to buy in 2004, 2005, 2006… Dumb money was buying then but smart money is buying now. Today’s buyers will look like geniuses in five years.

I dont feel sorry for Dr. J. one bit! He is a jerk! There was a little grade school in my town that and needed money or it was closing down . It was in a small parish for local immigrants. I decided to help them raise money and sent Dr. J. a throw back pair of Dr Js converse tennis shoes from the 70′s to sign and I was going to list the item on Ebay and give the funds to the school. I included a letter from the parish priest. The amount of time he took to send this letter back to me that was REFUSING the signature on a pair of tennis shoes, he could of just signed his name in 2 seconds! This was downright stingy, greedy and thoughtless! He has had his share of bad luck, afterward I heard his son went out to the grocery store for soda or something like that and never came back, later it was discovered he drove into a ditch with some water and drowned. People reap their bad luck by being jerks in this world. How much could his signature be worth on a pair of tennis shoes anyway? I just happened to have the shoes and thought if he signed them I could give the money to the church. HE IS A COMPLETE SELF CENTERED JERK! What goes around comes around… well now he knows what that little church felt like when they had to close their school.
