Saints’ Coach Sean Payton Leasing Mark Teixeira’s Vaquero Home
Though New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is moving to Dallas, he has made it clear he is only switching homes, not teams. According to the Associated Press, Saints’ owner, Tom Benson, states “Sean is making a decision in the best interest of his family…What I do know is that Sean is focused on bringing our team back to a championship.”
Speculation behind Payton’s move is due in part to his residential history with the Lone Star state. According to The Times-Picayune, Payton lived in the luxurious Dallas community of Southlake during his years as assistant coach to the Dallas Cowboys (2003-2005). This time around, the Payton family isn’t relocating to just any multi-million neighborhood. Payton has reportedly signed a lease agreement for a gorgeous home that sits behind the walled, secured, security patrolled, and super-exclusive neighborhood of Vaquero.
The 525-acre Vaquero community is located in the town of Westlake, a neighborhood that Forbes named the most affluent in the U.S. And how’s this for a name-drop: The property Payton and his family will be living in is owned by New York Yankees’ first baseman, Mark Teixeira, who has been trying to sell the home for the past few years. Public records show Teixeira’s Vaquero home was first listed in 2008 for $5.75 million, again in October for $4.55 million, and last seen on the market at $3,995,000. Apparently Teixeira decided to try his luck in the rental market, listing the property for $15,000/month, which quickly caught Payton’s eye.
Payton’s new Vaquero home measures in with over 8,500 sq ft of living space and features a 4-bedroom main house and separate 1-bedroom guest house. The expansive main house has a gourmet eat-in kitchen, tiered media room, huge game room with bar and deck, 2-level office, and a spacious master suite with his-and-her baths. The outdoor living spaces are equally impressive and include a large swimming pool, negative-edge spa, a covered patio with outdoor kitchen, fire pit, and rolling lawns all just steps away from the water’s edge. As a resident, Payton also has the option to become a member of the even more exclusive Vaquero Club. Yes — there is an exclusive club within the most exclusive community in the most affluent neighborhood in America. For a meager $175,000 initiation fee and $15,000 annual dues, club members can enjoy an array of perks that include anything from tennis lessons, to an on-call decorator or arranging a pet sitter while you’re out of town.
