Miami Heat’s Alonzo Mourning Lists Coral Gables Estate
After six years of living in 13,000 square feet, 8 bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms and nearly an acre of land, Alonzo Mourning and his wife, Tracy, have decided it’s time to downsize, according to the Wall Street Journal
Priced at a hefty $14.5 million, Alonzo Mourning’s Miami-area home is located in the premium gated Gables Estates and is one of only 14 bay-front homes in the community. Coral Gables real estate is on the higher side, but having extensive water-frontage ups the home’s value significantly. Median Coral Gables home values are $426,800 and are rising 6 percent year-over-year.
Mourning spent most of his 15 years in the NBA playing center with the Miami Heat. He twice earned the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award and was often on the NBA All-Defensive Team. When he left pro basketball in 2008, he was the first Heat player to have his number retired. Currently, the former NBA star is focusing on charity work and has a role with the Heat as Vice President of Player Programs and Development.
Mourning and his wife purchased the enormous Coral Gables home for $12.75 million in 2005 when he returned to play for the Heat after a short stint with the New Jersey Nets. It looks like the couple is trying to recoup a bit on their investment; their asking price is 13.7 percent more than their purchase price.
In addition to Biscayne Bay views from nearly every window in Mourning’s home, the property features an infinity pool and spacious patios and terraces. Inside, the home has a huge master suite with limestone fireplace, sitting room, dressing room, steam shower and his-and-her bathrooms and closets.
The listing is held by William Meyersohn and Michael Williams of Coldwell Banker Previews International.
