Elizabeth Montgomery’s Former Home for Sale
“This home will bewitch you and you’ll feel like being on the banks of where a river runs though it.”
And thus began a riddle over a listing description about an Agoura Hills home for sale.
After some digging, it was learned the twice celebrity-owned home once belonged to the late Elizabeth Montgomery, best known for her famous nose twitch on the highly rated television series, Bewitched. Montgomery‘s role as lovable witch Samantha Stephens earned her five Emmy and four Golden Globe nominations. The show, which ran for nine seasons between 1964 and 1973, was considered one of the most sophisticated sitcoms on the air as it cleverly explored contemporary themes and social issues within its fantasy context.
Montgomery’s former home is currently owned by actor Craig Sheffer. The actor was first recognized for his role on the ABC daytime drama One Life to Live, but on the big screen, one of Sheffer’s most notable roles was as Brad Pitt’s older brother in Robert Redford’s “A River Runs Through It.” Sheffer also played Keith Scott on the CW Network series One Tree Hill until it was discontinued halfway through season 3.
From the looks of it, star power is not enough to sell a home; the estate has been on-and-off the market since May 2010. Originally listed for $1,999,900 the home is now back on the market with a $700,900 price cut.
The 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home for sale features a spacious great room, intimate dining room with built in-antiques and chandelier, as well as a private master suite with a meditation balcony. Also included on the 0.57-acre lot is a partially enclosed patio with entertainer’s bar, adjacent Moroccan-style conversational area with a fireplace and two covered cabanas, including a spa grotto and waterfall. The 2,400-st ft cottage offers expansive views of the Santa Monica mountains and Malibou Lake.
Listed by Sharon Berman of Dilbeck Real Estate, a monthly payment on the home would be $4,814, assuming a 20 percent down payment with a 30-year-fixed mortgage, according to Zillow Mortgage Marketplace.
