Courtney Love in a “Hole” Lot Of Trouble With Townhouse Eviction
When you buy a home, you have the freedom to paint the walls, change the drapes, wallpaper the bathroom or, heck, go crazy and knock out a wall.
When you rent a home, you should probably check with your landlord before you do any of the above, which is what Courtney Love has allegedly done to her swanky townhouse rental at 250 W. 10th St in New York City’s coveted West Village neighborhood. That kind of redecorating is worthy of eviction, which is what the erratic Hole singer now faces.
According to the New York Post, Love is getting the boot for setting drapes on fire and “ruining” the home’s designer decor.
Love has rented the historic four-story building for the past 10 months at $27,000/month. The landlord and owner, Donna Lyon, claims that Love damaged the townhouse when she painted and wall-papered over the hand-finished walls. Part of the lease stipulated that interiors were to be left as is.
Lyon told the Post the extent of the damage, saying:
I was horrified by what she had done. The walls that had been hand-painted and glazed were ruined, covered in damask wallpaper and ice-blue paint.”
In addition to Love’s flamboyant foray into interior design, the singer also accidentally lit drapes on fire with a candle. According to Lyon, Love also owes over $50,000 in missed rent payments.
The historic townhouse was featured in Elle Decor in 2009. Built in 1827, the home was previously owned by Steven Gambrel, who did extensive decor work. Lyon purchased the home through her company, Astor Street Partners, for $8 million and prior to Love’s mishap, was looking to sell the property.
There aren’t public photos of what Love allegedly did to the decor, but previous listing photos show the townhouse was a pristine gem when it was first rented. See below:
