Celebrities to Sell-brities: Hilary Duff, Ryan Seacrest and Others
Things were hot in celebrity real estate circles this summer with several celebrity estates snagging buyers. Here’s a look at some of the selling celebs and the properties they unloaded.
Kidman sold the 3,785-square-foot condo at 176 Perry St #12S, New York, NY 10014, below, for $16 million. The Academy Award winner originally purchased the home in the Richard Meier-designed building in 2003, via the name of her younger sister, Antonia Hawley. It was reported that Kidman became disenchanted with the condo after the construction of a nearby Meier-designed tower at 165 Charles St. partially blocked what were supposed to be unobstructed views. So without much ado, Kidman and husband Keith Urban bought a Chelsea condo for $10 million.
Michael C. Hall
Hall, best known for his role as conflicted serial killer Dexter on Showtime’s award-winning show of the same name, listed his home for $1.995 million in June and sold it only three months later for $1,837,500.
Hall bought the Hal Levitt-designed property in 2008 for $1.75 million. Built in 1933, the Hollywood Hills home features high ceilings and an open floor plan while incorporating the outdoors.
Duff’s home in Toluca Lake, the first property she picked up as the teen star of Disney’s “Lizzie McGuire” franchise, sold for $4,651,500. She first listed the estate back in 2011 for $6.25 million, relisting it in March 2012 for $5.5 million before it sold this July. The new mom and wife of hockey player Mike Comrie bought the home in 2004 for $3.5 million at age 17.
After two years on the market and a price cut, Seacrest’s home has sold. The “American Idol” host (as well as producer, radio and TV personality) first listed the home in 2010 for $14.95 million and then decided to take it off the market for a year.
When he did relist the home, he listed it pretty privately — releasing just one photo of the home publicly. All other interior shots were password protected on the Westside Estate Agency website. That’s one way to weed out the paparazzi.
Less than a year after buying Brad Pitt’s Malibu home, DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi sold their home quietly in June. According to property records, the sale went through on June 15 for $13 million. DeGeneres only bought the cliffside home in December 2011 for $12 million.
