50 million homes viewed on Zillow
By: Diane Tuman, Zillow Content Manager | January 15, 2009
Here’s a milestone worth mentioning: Our data and analytics team just told us that of the 82,377,347 homes we have on Zillow, 50 million of those pages have been viewed at least once. That’s more than half (60%) of all homes in America. In some cities — namely, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Seattle — more than 90% of all homes in these areas have been looked up and viewed on Zillow.
Putting it in perspective, there are:
- Approximately 93,673,000 million single-family homes in the U.S. (including condos and co-ops)
- 82,377,347 home details pages on Zillow
- 70 million homes on Zillow with Zestimates
As you can see, one of the big things that separates Zillow from other real estate sites is that we have a page for nearly every home in America (shy by about 11 million homes). Yes, we have homes for sale (by agent), homes for sale (by owner), we have Make Me Move homes, we have recently sold homes, we have most popular homes (filter by city, state) and we have famous homes. And then we have your home. Go ahead and find your home on Zillow. Update your home facts (which could affect the Zestimate value).
There’s lots more to do on Zillow, including looking at conservative columnist George Will’s house in Chevy Chase, MD that the Christian Science Monitor linked to in an article about President-elect Barack Obama wining and dining with the “enemy.” Don’t forget to check out the Zestimate we put on the White House, the fact that mortgage rates are under 5.0%, or the hundreds of thousands of posts in Zillow Advice.
You can easily spend lots of time on Zillow — just don’t get fired while you do it.

I am an agent registered with Zillow who has a big complaint. You show me as having three listings, including one at 123 Greenwich St. in Pittsfield, MA 01201, that I sold in October 2008 for $225,000. I have tried repeatedly to convey that information to you, but am constantly blocked because the closing date supposedly predated the date the listing was created (or perhaps auto-loaded from another site?). The other two listings have expired; one is under contract. And, yes, I did update the statuses of all of the above promptly when I received the biweekly e-mails from you requesting that information! So everything on your site with my name on it is incorrect, which reflects badly on my professionalism and the integrity of your Web site. Also, in regard to past listings (I’m a “Zillow All-Star”!), I have found it very difficult to correct misinformation such as square footage, number of bedrooms, etc., on your site.

Debra -
Do you pay for a lot of advertising on Zillow? Perhaps Zillowites only try to perform responsibly for agencies who pay them well (what might be called a “traditional model”). Why not call up a friend at Century 21 and see if they’ve had similar problems?

Hi Debra -
This is easy to fix! You are still advertising these three listings on Propertypreviews.com and that’s why they’re on Zillow (we get your listings via a data feed.) If you take down the listings from Propertypreview.com they will also be updated on Zillow.

Ronald-
Please take a look at this post for more on the topic of how we determine the placement of a home on the map. As the owner, you can edit the home’s location.
